I was part of the grangemouth strike action a couple of years back.campbell wrote:You've done your share of striking then?

It's pretty hard to lay the blame on the shoulders of the public sector workers.

I dont feel unfairly tarred, far from it, i just know, having been on the other side of the fence, that the information available to the general public via the media is totally bollocks compared to what is actually happening to cause the strike.
Robin, i dont know anything about this strike, so i wasnt saying it was worthwhile or not. As you say, its public sector, so its a tricky situation.
Re: Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
OK Neil received and understood.
I think it is a great pity that the flow of info into public channels is so badly skewed in these situations, but I suppose some will claim "commercial confidentiality" etc etc etc blah blah blah. Not good.
I think this stuff gets tricky because (I imagine) in many ways, strikers need the public whom they are going to impact, to get on their side to help get a point home to their employers. But this tends to be paradoxical doesn't it.
Also, different strikes affect different cross-sections I imagine. If we had the time, we could analyse:
- The Miners
- The car workers
- The Teachers
- The petrochemicalheads
- The BA cabin crew
- The Civil Servants
...and others which I've missed, and I bet we'd see some really interesting results as to how much the affected customers, end-users, general public groups etc, were on-board or against the strikers.
We could also look at what was actually giving rise to the dispute in the first place, and as Robin says, what amount of negotiation (if any) had occurred (or at least been attempted!).
Bottom line for me is, I absolutely don't hold Public Sector responsible for "the current mess", but while my employer was taking a hatchet to jobs in advance of the recession, the Public Sector was riding high. That is just not sustainable. I have some experience working with that sector as my client, and I shall share some of my observations in the bar in November. But not here.
Right, shall we get back to the fun stuff in this thread now?!

According to the Nurburgring website the GP circuit is open for tourist sessions (30 Euro for 20 mins) on the Thu and Fri 10am til 4pm. Possibly safer than the NorthLoop for those who don't want to risk it. Should really get a session myself as Scotty seemed to like the circuit and I've never been round it.

So 530 euro next week for 5 hours on that and 5 hours on the ring is not bad value then!Scotty C wrote:I paid 100euro for half and hour before i raced there.BigD wrote:According to the Nurburgring website the GP circuit is open for tourist sessions (30 Euro for 20 mins) on the Thu and Fri 10am til 4pm. I've just returned from a 3,5k miles Eurotrip and had planned to put the car in the garage, not getting it out before next season..... Until I bumped into this tread!
Though Spa/Francorchamps is not too far from me, it's still on my to-do-list.
Are you guys happy to make this an international posse? (including Ring)
It would still fit in the Blitz Krieg picture as we were on the same side. Don't mention...
