Reservoir to Master cylinder Pipe.

Post by Stumpy Nugget » Sun Jun 27, 2010 6:55 pm

Anyone got an idea where is the best place to get a replacement pipe that runs from the Brake fluid reservoir to the Clutch Master cylinder? P/N C111j0085F I think? Mine appears to be leaking. Just asking as I have had a look through the usual places and it looks like I would need to go to lotus and pay top dollar? Any help appreciated.

PS: I guess this means I should bleed the clutch also in case air has got in?

It's just a bit of hose. You could pick some up from a local motor factor and cut to length.

Mine's weeping a bit and wasa thinking of replacing too. I was looking at replacing it with a length of silicon hose. You need the Fuel rated stuff, but apparantly it's resiliant to brake fluid. Smallest length you buy is a metre for around £25 and I reckon you could fit out several elises with a metre length. So if you think you might be interested in some shiny red or black silcon hose, I'd certainly be up for splitting the cost! :thumbsup

Thanks Ferg. Where have you seen this stuff on sale? I guess the outside and inside diameters need to match the existing pipe.

For instance here

I was looking for replacement pipe online when I found an article from a kit car forum that said this stuff did exactly what was required. I've assumed, looking at the pipe on the car that 6.5mm is probably pretty much right, but it would be worth checking first, maybe someone on here can give some insight? I'm also not entirely sure that the silicon hose will bend through the angles needed on the Elise as I don't know if 'flurosilcone' is as felxible as normal silicon hose.

I liked the idea of putting red hose on just to weed out those who had only heard about the dreaded 'Red Clutch Hose' from those that new what it really meant.

I changed mine recently as it was weeping - £5.50 from MMC (plus I replaced the retaining clips.)

Could I ask a favour...could you measure the inside diameter for me when it arrives. I can then decide if it's possible to go shiny silicon or get what is a pretty cheap OEM part. :thumbsup

Just got back from Holidays to find the part from MMC in the house. Recalling I was quoted a price of 5.51 +vat when I ordered it you can imagine my surprise to see the bill of 37 quid. Looks like there was a price change on the 8th of the month or something. Brilliant. So I now own the most expensive 5 inches of rubber hose I have ever seen.

Anyway, Ferg, the hose is pre-formed into the correct shape with two different diameters at each end. One side is Outside 14mm, Inside 7mm, the other is outside 12mm, inside 6mm.

Hope this helps.

If the price is significantly different from what you were quoted, return the part - pretty sure mail order means that they cannot change the price on you, at least not without your consent.

For 37 quid you get a lot of fuel line.

Car builder solutions is a good place for this type of stuff:

£4.50+VAT/m ;-)
