Another car for her.... help please!

Post by Rich H » Sat Dec 12, 2009 11:10 pm

Her MX-5 is nearing the end of its warranty and although it's OK it's not exactly been great - sticking rear calipers, rotting exhaust, shuddering clutch couple of rattles they can't fix - so we need to find a replacement... The car I think she needs is an SLK - but she doesn't like the image apparently...

£8k is the budget and a convertible is still favored... Any suggestions? (No an S1 is not allowed...)

944 Cab - I like... she does not...! I already have the 924 Turbo - that's enough watercooled Porsche for me...

S2000 is a good idea - I'll mention it.

I'm trying to find a local with an original Elan DHC....

S2000 definitely worth a shout - not that I'm biased in any way :D

If you do end up looking give me a shout and I can pass on some advice on what to look out for if you like?

Cheers

At that money, a S2000 or Z3. Definitely not an SLK; horrible, horrible auto.

S2K :thumbsup

CLK - depending on what vintage, it's likely to be rubbish.

I had a mk3 mr2. Never liked it. Way too much body twist when pushing and not much grunt. Plus there is no boot what-so-ever.

S2000 sounds good tho.

Things to look for -

Seized geo bolts - ask when the geo was last done and where. Expensive and time consuming fix.

Worn soft top - look above driver and passenger shoulder - classic point of wear.

Post Model Year 04 has facelift and suspension tweaks, new alloys etc that help keep it facing the right way! Might be tight on your budget but I managed to get mine for just a bit more than that - all be it on a higher mileage.

Have a look over at s2ki.co.uk at the technical faq - all you need to look for is there.

Cheers and happy hunting!
