is it repeated, cannot believe i missed my favourite programme..... C4 online?
Re: Grand Designs
Much though I enjoy(ed) watching this I have had to give it up.
Due to a professional interest I can't stop shouting at the telly. There is no pleasure in watching people career head long through projects while being ill advised or stupidly thinking they know best.
£1K a square metre more like £2K+. Complicated refurb/renovation and contemporary extension, never.
Problem with this type of programme is some viewers will always blank out the bits, Kevins raised eyebrows at the cost estimate, to suit their own ambitions. A suitably qualified professional would never, I'm sure, anticipate such a low spend on something so complicated.
Caution, always seek out an experienced professional and be prepared to not like what they say!!!!!!

if evolution don't take care of it, redesign it

My admiration goes to the person who sold it to them.
£400K for a small piece of land with a falling down heap on it.

Re: Grand Designs
I feel his pain, all of my neighbours objected to my planning app. They complained about the most insignificant things and actually lied in their objections. It took over a year for my case to be heard and after all of it i got planning.
I hope he gets it but feel so sorry for him that his dream has been ruined....

Re: Grand Designs
I see your point ed, but it makes for pretty boring viewing- it looks like a signal hut you would see next to a railway line.
Re: Grand Designs
Bit of a muppet for the lack of written authority, but, those neighbours have a lot to answer for. Must be a kick in the hangers that you want to have a good relationship with them but its been sullied. The loss of the balconies killed the project for me to be honest.

Re: Grand Designs
Not my cup of tea, the planning thing must have been a PITA but as far as I can tell it was too high, it would have probably been easier to jack the house up and dig a bigger hole for it.
I hope the neighbours want to put an extension on their house in a few years.

Re: Grand Designs
No doubting his dedication, but I thought it was an eyesore, and the Council/Planning fiasco on both sides made poor viewing.

Having just sat and watched last weeks one on C4OD, i was actually really impressed by their efforts on the crumbling ruin - 5-10% over budget....his face said he was lying, but never the less, a good finish.
One point, why do these f?ckers always start shagging and having kids through a very stressful self build, i mean jeysus!!!

Re: Grand Designs
I would have liked to have seen the view from the neighbours house, he might well have had a valid complaint.
Quite a boring programme for once, the house was not particularly imaginitive or inspiring just an idiosyncratic version of a quaint north American house that looked entirely out of place in it's surroundings.

Re: Grand Designs
Was a very boring show, that just left us feeling down in the dumps with his planning/neighbour woes rather than "wow, look at that amazing house" IYSWIM * The neighbours clearly didn't want their house filming - you'd never have know there were neighbours without the narrative. So we ended up with a potentially skewed representation of the facts regarding loss of privacy etc
The house itself was hardly inspiring - but the story behind it, of his dream, was. Interesting chap.
* not as bad as the house boat disaster one a few years back though
