Exhausts....?

Post by Northernpar » Thu Apr 17, 2008 10:00 pm

Now that I've finally got the Exige S PP I'm looking to improve the exhaust note. Not looking for any performance improvement at the moment but would like a more distinctive note without the droning & booming plus not too much increase in noise levels at low/cruising revs and road legal. Not too bothered if it's diffuser exit or GT3 style. Any suggestions?

So far I've been looking at:

Larini
2bular
Quicksilver

What meets my requirements and are there any other makes I should be considering?

Cheers in advance for any help :thumbsup

If its too loud, your too old :D

I have got a Larini on my NA Exige. Sounds great at full chat and doesn't drone on a steady throttle, but would be too loud for most track days in Englandshire. 2bular seem very highly rated by everyone, and Jim V (Mr 2bular)can make you up an exhaust with volume and exhaust tip style to suit your taste. As he is local to you I think he would be the best option :thumbsup

i've just got the larini on my elise and it's great!

doesn't drone on the motorway and sounds great when you accelerate, as noted above i think it would be too loud for some trackdays though. i decatted it too which wouldn't help.

I'm in the same boat mate but will probably go with 8inch 2bular. Just need to decide through diffuser or GT3 style with or without rear grill? I like Jim's work but deliveries can be a bit extended. Sounds like Larini are the same though.

What's the trackday thing all about then...?

If so, is there such a thing at KH?

Is there a noise level enforced at some circuits or is it more it would be ridiculously loud sitting in the car?! :?

no noise limit at KH as it's in the middle of know where

at some tracks they have neighbours and so there is a noise limit imposed

If you do buy a 2bular, make sure you get a phone number for Jim and pester him a few days before your delivery date comes up. It will definitely not be ready. Expect it to be late and don't expect any contact from Jim to let you know it's running late.

Excellent exhausts, just a shame about the customer service.

as some of the other posts mention , if you plan on doing trackdays down south, then worth trying to ascertain the volume of the exhaust prior to buying. Had the Lotus Stage 2 on the 111r, and thought it sounded great.

By and large it would need to be severly loud to fail, but not worth the risk.

Also, volume wise, worth remembering that constant exposure to something really loud WILL damage your hearing.

I've driven my last 2 Lotus's and the Atom with earplugs/Shure's as a result :thumbsup

That's what I was thinking of too. 8" 2Bular with the GT3 finish. I'll wait until I get the full repair done which could be a while and then consider making an investment. If you manage to get yours done first would be great if you posted a sound file.

No problem mate :thumbsup GT3 style now on order from Jim at 2bular. As soon as it's on I'll get a recording done.

I'm a fan of Jim's work and he's a top bloke so wouldn't go past him. OK he doesn't have 'John Lewis' levels of customer service but he's one guy designing, welding, selling plus the dreaded admin!

Jim says there is a power increase if you leave the rear grill off to disipate the heat but I'm not too sure about the look

Jim has made me 2 exhaust's for the 340r. He is about to make me a full 1 off over the top system for the 340r. I'm sure it will be a work of art?

I have a stage 2 fitted to the 240 cup and it's fairly loud. I will be fitting a GT3 late on in the year. As other people have said his delivery/customer service is not the best but that is about to change. They are worth waiting for. Think I will put in my order soon.

If you want to hear the Stage 2 give me a shout and we can meet up as I live in ABZ.

You can try the new lotus Stage III exhaust which i am having fitted to my new Exige which will keep your warranty intact.

You will be able to hear the difference in the exhaust note and noise when my car arrives.

there is a video clip here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wf8vaFXCZhI
