I've updated the forum to only allow registered users to view it.
I thought this was worth doing in case people are posting stuff about meets, registrations etc. that they wouldn't want anyone seeing. Also the Yahoo group is only viewable by members so thought we should keep this the same.
Is that ok with everyone or do we want it viewable by anyone?
Lets have our first poll

Being private tends to discourage new members and who really gives a toss about what we are up to anyway
Just my take on it

See your point, but look at the split in SELOC/BBS stuff. Yes there's a SELOC mafia which seems to have the lions share of postings, but the BBS is a troll-fest come the school holidays!

Yea the problem w BBS tho is you can post without registering - or actually I should say that the real problem is members posting anonymously. Shame too cause it still has a lot of top folk only posting there.
I'm not sure what SELOC do, can you read their posts without registering? I know you can't post.

SELOC is the same as this is just now, you can't view until you register.

As with S_E, it gives some control of who you have on, although there you actually have to be approved by a moderator.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too.
At the moment, anyone can sign up.
There's only 1 person signed up that I don't know who they are, Nonterraquous
Anyone know who that is? They've not posted at all.

I think it'd be dangerous to keep people out 'cos we don't know them! Everybody should be welcome, unless they prove a nuisance.

I'm happy with it as it is.
Approving people would also mean more work

I'd say let anyone view...
Can you not not "hide" certain topics so that only members can see the meets section, for instance?

I am 50/50 on the viewing, but 100% on the registration to post.
If I go to look at a site, I like to see what is being posted before being asked to register. This is a moderated one, so it is apparent that although we do not take ourselves too seriously, there are rules on language, abusivness etc, which in itself, is a good advertisment.
