Last year I parked the Elise at the end of the line of Minis and took all the attention away from them

Subaru Impreza was thrown into the mix the other day with the final statement being"well you can fit a pram in that"

Priced up a brand new Cooper give or take a few pounds it's £16k although I'm loathed to go down the cooper route as I would like to take any new car out at the weekend and in no uncartain terms thrash it !

I think a cooper-s would be a better option but I'm not willing to spend 18k+ on a new one, I have spotted a cherished mini in Inverness with the aero kit, full leather etc. for 13k which I'm sure could be squeezed slightly.

Anyone lived with a cooper-s or given one a good thrashin !?

Impreza = cool car, but very thirsty to run
Mini = A car I don't like, (down to personal taste), but gets good reports
Fast Renaults = Great drivers cars, and quick, but (from personal experience, and others' experience) very unreliable.
Fezza ST = Great wee car.
New CTR = not as good as previous car (and IMHO not very good looking), but should be reliable
Golf GTi (mark V) = very slow depreciation, great fun to drive, and (so far) built solidly... you know it makes sense

Impreza - not really a cool car IMHO.
Mini - quite like - bit pricey for a small car!
Fast renaults- they're still renaults- poor build quality in my experience
Fezza ST -pretty quick - I like.
New CTR- not as good as the previous ctr-interesting styling
Golf GTi - it's still a golf! ( sorry Dom just shouts lack of imagination to me)

Impreza - makes you look like a drug dealer
Mini - pricey for a small car! Suzuki Swift ?
Fast renaults- Fast but they fall to bit's they are made by underpaid algerians who hate the french!
Fezza ST -Yawn.
New CTR- not as good as the previous ctr- looks cooler though (the RUF CTR is way better ;) )
Golf GTi - it's still a golf! so save some money and buy a skoda. (how much is an R32 nowadays ?)
Seat Leon - Its a golf! but a bit more sporty

Looks like I'm throwing my sombrero in this particular ring

Went to look at minis for Alix yesterday: she's after a convertible. I quite fancied the Cooper S one, until I realised that I might be tempted to drive it if it was that model - then I'd need to get a sticker made up saying "it's the bird's" for such times..

The Cooper S has several detractions - insurance grp 15E compared to 5 and 8 for the One and Cooper, and the fuel economy is pretty embarrassing too. So, we're now on the look out for a 'pepper' or 'chili' packed cooper convertible. The sales people at Seafield BMW were awful so I walked out, only to be offered a weekend testdrive as an apology. I'll pass on Alix's comments when we get that sorted. In the meantime, off to John Clarks in good old dundee for some proper customer service :thumbsup

yep... and there is a nice MKII 54-plate 260 on Pistonheads for £10.5K just now. £5K gets you supercharged to 400bhp.... fancy that, change left from your £16K budget.. ;)
