Paint Shops & Interior Trim

Post by Cammy » Sun Jul 29, 2007 8:32 pm

Now that I have decided to strip the 340R back to the bare minimum I'm going to give her a fresh coat of paint and re-trim.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an exceptional paint shop. Not fussed about travelling to have it done as long as its done right. I'd rather spend an extra few quid if I have too for a superior job. I was wondering if maybe a bike paint shop would be better as they are more used to dealing with fibreglass etc :?:
Also looking to re-trim the seats, top sill panels etc and will probably use a fair bit of CF on various parts.

Now all I have to do is pick the colour. Must admit I still love the Scandal Green & Black

Suggestions on a postcard please

Cammy

Tried and tested by others and me......I will use them again for my exige at some point!

Work was perfect and the price was good too!

Hi Cammy,
Might be worth giving Steve Walker Bodyshop in Bathgate a try , he has done quite a few Lotuses and I've never heard a bad word said about his workmanship.
I was down there last week after a mates dog jumped on the door of the Scooby and scratched it  Luckily the scratches buffed out , he also gave me a jar of touch-up paint and went around the whole car with a digital paint guage and assured me it was all original paintwork. All this for just £15 :)
Scandal green gets my vote for the 340 or maybe Aspen White.

When mine needs re-done I'd go for T49 gold leaf colours, with gold front and rear wings. 8) 8) 8)

If you are not going to use the factory trim shop, I'd suggest Bill Ramsay out by Ikea in Edinburgh. He's done a few jobs for some of us here and does a top job at very reasonable rates.

That green Sinclaires 340RR was absolutely the star of the show for me!

Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it...

Speak to Sinclaires about the carbon leather retrim on that car too. It was simply stunning!

Factory seems a good bet for the re-trim and I don't think the are mega expensive either.

What about a flip paint job? Scandel green to the colour of G's caterham 8)

The workshop retrims are £200 per seat and they do a great job.

I'm with Lee, white all the way. Maybe over the winter.

I was thinking about giving the 340 a make over but its not cheap? I would think best part of £2K for top clam, tub painted and seats re-trimed

My thoughts so far on the makeover are the following:

Scandal Green top shell & aerofoil, Black tub & wheels. Rollover bar is already black.
CF front spoiler, maybe CF mudguards.
Interior seats re-trimmed with green inserts to match with centre tunnel & rear panel done with CF. Also really like the CF steering wheel. Top sill panels need to be stripped and re-trimmed also.

I've already stripped back a lot of the bracketry on the car which will all be shotblasted and powder coated black.

This should keep me going for a while.

Oh, I nearly forgot, I've got the engine to fix

For a really extreme look, why not go for a chrome/shiny bare metal finish ?

Alternatively, matt black would look very menacing (in a batcar sort of style) but possibly not that safe if you are driving in low light, as no-one would see you!

Hope you found the source of the oil leak on Saturday ?

John

PS The scandal green would work well, or the dayglo yellow colour of Gareth's Caterham and would be my choice if I owned one.
