Listen to the throttle whilst cornering - he's blipping it all the way round!

I think it was Brundle who said that the other drivers could hear this and know that they had no chance getting past in the next corner.

simply awesome!

I wonder how lon that engine lasted! That circuit would've been a nightmare with the ground effect cars I guess.

Wow. You have got to listen to that on full volume!!! I love the braking from what must be close to max speed down to a low grumble in 2nd for the double hairpin (is that the S?) with the back of the car going left and right trying to overtake him.

What a shame it was his career ended the way it did :-(

Respect.

Was a class act. We were deprived of seeing more greatness.

Might have been. Watching the vid the lap appeared to be completed in about 1:18. According to wikipedia (here) the fastest race lap was a 1:24 but that was in the days of low fuel qualy laps with super sticky tyres. I can't find the pole time on t'internet.

has 1991 Monaco pole as
1991 Ayrton SENNA (McLaren-Honda) 01:20.344

just a tad faster than he was in the Lotus in 1985
1985 Ayrton SENNA (Lotus-Renault) 01:20.450

Can never bore of watching Senna at work - still miss his talents (and charisma too).

I was fortunate enough to see him on track at a few GPs in the mid 80s. Will never forget watching him make his Lotus-Renault, on full-crazy-turbo-boost, skip & dance on the tarmac at Brands Hatch qualifying '86. Awesome.

There is no doubt he was the best ever driver and we were tragically robbed of seeing him break even more records.
