I'm back already ...

Ali, UncleR, myself and AndyG/Rolfe left Orange early doors on Saturday to get the Saturday afternoon Geordie Express, back home by 11:30 on Sunday so that I could watch Spa F1 :-)

Despite it being 700+ miles and us driving at reasonable motorway speeds and some pretty awful weather, the trip was actually pretty easy. Could have been a 2-stopper were it not for a bungled fuel strategy ....

Cheers,
Robin

It's was 'slightly' better attached after I clipped the roll bar cover on properly at Zandvoort. ;)

Nice pics D.

Thought the gaffer tape on the roof edge was artificial striping

Nice pics D!

Frank and me decided not to go north over the boring French 'peage' but via Stelvio and have a pitstop at Nurburg. Halfway Stelvio we were forced to go back due to snow. Down the hill at Bormio we worked out a plan B while having a capuchino in a hotelbar. When we got outside after half an hour the sky was clear and decided to try the pass again. There was still snow on the top, the roads were wet but not slippery and we succeed to reach the other side.
The ring was great, I managed to do four laps and an even count in pax seat with Frank.
I haven't thought much of getting the camera out this week, but will post the good ones today or tommorow.

Stelvio pass in snow - awesome!

Sure beats Beattock summit in snow after Spa last Nov :-)

Was reading about Stelvio in EVO this month. Much like the Ring, it sounds like an increasing victim of its own success...Would still love to go back, as much for journey there as for the pass itself.

I got home at 3pm on Sunday afternoon after a leasurely start from Orange, 10:30am, a nice meal and overnight stay just outside Calais (the free hotel Paul put on) then a leasurely drive up the road via an uneventfull Chunnel crossing (Strike action caused no issues). Definately would do it that way again. Breaking the journey into 2 made it very easy. :thumbsup

The civic was uncrashable, it oversteered a little but nothing drastic, pretty planted actually as much as I tried to unsettle it. Was great on the motorway but lacking a little corner speed on track, mainly due to the stock suspension and road tyres. Still kept up with Corbie though.

Add to that the fact there was no exhaust manifold heat-shield it certainly got roasty-toasty in there. Pax's necks got pretty fried. I managed about 10 laps max before the sweat was nipping my eyes and the wheel was slipping in my hands on most days.

Ledenon was fricking unbelievably good. :thumbsup
