1st Track day Advice

Post by c8rkh » Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:51 am

Hi all,
Hoping to do my first ever track day (the odd corporate day doesnae count) soon in my 2010 NA Evora. Anyone like to recommend / suggest the best ones coming up? Would prefer it to be in Scotland as I live between Perth and Dundee. So I guess that's Knockhill then? Don't fancy tangling bumpers with any youngsters in Saxo's, Fiesta's etc, something a bit more grown up preferred... :)

Thanks in advance
Andy.

Hi Andy, keep your eyes open for the first SIDC event of the year, normally Sunday morning 0900 - 1300, mainly by invite as 80% of cars are S_E, organised by John Stewart so as good as it gets, and full of friendly people who will get you up to speed in the shortest possible time.

Strict regulations as regards safety/overtaking etc, but you can still enjoy yourself as much as you want to in a safe envireonment. The first one of the year should be around March.

The fact that croft is a full day rather than 4 hours makes a big difference too. More relaxed and plenty of time to improve. :)

I'd go with Tut with regards to an SIDC trackday for a first outing. I did my first Track Day on an SIDC day where everybody is very considerate to 1st timers etc. It was also my first meeting waiting the SE guy's, again made to feel most welcome. From then on in its cost me a fortune, totally addicted now.

I'm hoping to pop the Evora's cherry at either KH or the July Croft day. Can't wait !!!

My first was a newbie trackway that KH used to run. That was in the morning and was followed by SIDC in the afternoon. SIDC is a good place to start as others have said driving standards are pretty good. Just stay away from any KH hot hatch events or what ever they call them now. Top marques are OK however.

And SIDC days are normally on Saturday, don't know what ones tut has been going to all these years :D

Another vote for SIDC days. Well run and always the best of behaviour. It is also how I met the S.E. crew which has led onto plenty of adventures and a chain of events that now has me getting paid to drive an Ariel Atom. LOT days are also very well behaved.

Don't ever be afraid to ask anyone else for advice in your own driving and try and sit in with any of the regulars, you will be amazed how much you will pick up. Get as much tuition as you possibly can. SIDC days have free instruction so take up on it as much as possible. I would also highly recommend a training day with Andrew Walsh of Carlimts. Most of SE have had tuition from him at some point... Just don't go drinking with him

Another vote for the SIDC Knockhill days. I see they have just announced their dates for this year too :thumbsup

Echo comments about Croft - great track, and worth the trip down.

Just wanted to say thanks to you all who have replied. Sorry for the delay but I have been away with work.

I'll certainly check out the SIDC stuff, but it would be nice if LoT actually thought about Scotland and ran an event or two up here. Who knows, maybe even a few english/welsh guys would dust off their passports and make their way up here, and stay for a long weekend and sample some beautiful Scottish roads....

The training with Andrew sounds good too.

Next piece of advice - best place to buy a helmet up here (I'm looking for an MSA one as looking to do my ARDS training this year and possibly have the chance for a wee race outing or two later on!!!) as I'd prefer to try one on than just buy over the interweb.

I organised a couple of KH Trackdays with LOT and BAT Andy, they were well attended but mostly by S_E, the Southerners are reluctant to come this far North unless it was for Tut Towers.
