Not sure if you all got this, but might be a good trip in Sept especially?

Our 2016 Nordschleife dates.

Join us again at the world's greatest circuit for great value open pit lane track days. Cars only.

#DN14 - Thursday 28th April - Nordschleife - £449
A departure from our normal early April date - we're betting on better weather!
There's also a track day at Spa Francorchamps on the 29th ran with Skylimit Events before the 2nd VLN race at the Ring on the 30th.

#DN15 - Friday July 22nd - Nordschleife - £549
Immediately preceding the FIA WEC round at the Nürburgring, as a Le Mans fans we're staying on for the weekend to watch the action. Book accommodation early for this one, it might be a little more difficult to secure your usual hotel.

#DN16 - Thursday 29th and Friday 30th September - Nordschleife - £1100 (single day rate available)
Our end of season double header - not to be missed!
There's also another Skylimit Events Spa Francorchamps track day on the 28th.

Booking will open via the www.destination-nurburgring.com website on Monday 11th January. Don't delay!

Yes, Trackday like the one we did a few years ago. Hence the price, although actually good value compared to paying for laps.

And no insurance required; no British insurer offers tourist day cover, I believe.

Maybe I was lucky, but the Public Days that I did were not too bad, though maybe lapping with Sabine helped.

Tut, it's not the traffic (though that is a ball ache) it's just that these days (well since about 10 years ago now!) British insurers have refused cover for the NS but on tourist days it's a public road and you are legally obliged by German law to have insurance; catch22!

I was covered the first time with N1 and REIS, not sure that I checked the second time.

Half the time I forgot to phone in to Mary to tell her I had a Track Day, but of course it was highly unlikely that I would have an accident.

Ive been wanting to do Spa & the Nurburgring for years, especially now that ive got the Exige & a dozen trackdays under my belt......

Ive done a wee plan - a few options:

1) Edin to Newcastle Ferry Port - 124 miles - 2.5 hrs
Ferry Leaves Monday 26th Sept @ 1700, arrives in Ijmuiden @ 9.30am on the 27th
Travel to Spa Frachamps - 190 miles - 3hrs
Hotel 27th
Wednesday 28th - Trackday @ Spa
when it finishes, leave for the Nurburgring - 61 miles - 1.5 hrs
Thursday 29th - Trackday @ Nurburgring
Leave at 5pm & head to Amsterdam - Night out & all day
Ferry leaves Amsterdam @ 17.30 Friday 30th
Arrives Sat 9am
& home for Lunchtime.

Ferry cost is £362 for 1 car & 2 people & no breakfast (£44 extra for 4 breakfasts)

Option 2
is from Hull to Rotterdam
Departure times is 2030 .....
cost about the same
but 270 miles & 5 hour drive home........

In my experience Hull is a ball ache to get to compared to Newcastle, unless you happen to be at Cadwell Park so I would do Newcastle over the Hull ferry every time.

I am not a fan of the Newcastle ferry either, though it can be a laugh on the way out, it's always a bit depressing on the way home because it's so slooooow and everyone is knackered. Driving through England is also getting worse unless you do it in the middle of the night, so the tunnel is hardly a walk in the park either.

Given that the return ferry doesn't fit in well with the track days, it might make sense to do outbound on the ferry and return on the tunnel. I've done Ring->Edinburgh non-stop plenty of times and it is definitely harder each time I do it (old man but is possible - better if you're not coming off a 24 hour bender . So it might make sense to do something like stay at the ring after the track day, then home over the next 1-2 days depending on how many drivers in the car and appetite for long distance driving - with two drivers and some discipline on swapping drivers regularly/grabbing some kip in the pax seat, it is easily done (Again, better not to be coming off a 24 hour bender!).

So that would be:

Monday 26/9 Newcastle->Ijmuiden
Tuesday 27/9 Hotel at Spa
Wednesday 28/9 Track day & either hotel in Spa (early risers option) or hotel at the Ring.
Thursday 29/9 Track day at the Ring & hotel at the Ring (my advice is not to drive after a track day at the Ring - better off having a few beers and a sleep!).
Friday 30/9 Up early and home or up later and into England.
Saturday - recover in bed if you're home already, or complete the journey and arrive fresh as a daisy

You'll need some contingency for what to do if you bin it at the ring first thing though

P.S. There is a variant of that plan that does Ring->Ijmuiden on Friday (easily done and gets you there in time for departure even with a late start, stop for lunch and coffees, etc.); then stay on the boat on Friday night and easy run home on Saturday once the boat finally docks.

Robin - that sounds like quite a nice plan. I would also prefer Newcastle and probably the ferry back / hotel Friday night too because I like sleeping! I potentially have a bed in Cunbria area so that might be far enough....
