Crail karting endurace(NLC)

Post by Stu160 » Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:34 pm

Hi All

Just a wee report on this weekends fun at Crail
Prokarting this time, on my own, as my pal Duncan could not make it, which meant I had to 3 1 hour race on my own, or try to;-)

Sat testing went well, wet in the morning, to dry in the afternoon, so a good range of setup, went well, seemed on the pace, done about 200 laps.

Sunday morning was wet, but stopped raining, so the track was drying quick, had a reasonable qually and was please to find out I was 5th on the grid,(out of 20).

Race 1 was wet to start, and I was hanging on to the leaders, the track dried after 30 min, but you have no time to change to slicks, just have to keep going. The wets we run are quite hard, so will run in the dry, unlike the rotax wets, which last 2 laps and then melt ;-(
All have to do a driver change, so for a solo driver this means coming in, being weighed, driving up the pits at walking pace, jumping out the kart and running round it once and then off you go again.
Rest of the race went fine, and I finished 4th, which is my best result to date.

Race 2 is a reverse of the first grid, so 4th last. Slicks on this time, as it was dry. I had a few "moments "as I came though the pack from 16th. Lost a fare bit of time, but got 7th.

Race 3 is based on results of race 1+2 which put me 4th on the grid, wow,I was having a good day.
I find I am always a bit off the pace in the dry, not got a good dry setup yet, which is common, however I got a good start, but after 15 min or so, I started going back. By driver change (run round the kart time) I was told by my pit crew (Anne Marie) I was 5th, so not to bad. I then dropped another few places, but with 10 min. to go, it started to rain;-)
Fantastic, I love the rain. I was passing everything, and if I had another lap (even another corner) I had another one. Ended up 6th, which was great.

I reckon I got a 5th overall on the day, never got the final result, so the pain was worth it.

Over 500 laps this weekend, which is the most I have done, and I was the only solo driver. Just soaked in the spa bath for an hour with a few beers, so feeling a bit better now, the tracknight tomorrow will be fun though.
