The comment by Zmanalex.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

'nuff said on the red flags etc....
I liked the format: 12-4pm was very civilised, the weather was fab and the track was grippy. The downtime was a good chance to catch up with Mass, Kevin, Campbell and Jamie. My Elise seemed in fine fettle despite limited use this year and the front tyres could be described as "well scrubbed". Good to see all of the Elise contingent heeding Tut's warnings - there was not a hood or hardtop in sight!
Is that it for track action this year?
Cheers
Ian

Mark, the 944 seemed to be going well today
Just to clarify my earlier comments, I have no problem with people getting back onto the racing line having been passed, and have experienced how annoying it is to be hung out to dry. However, there were at least a couple of incidents where I had cars pulling sharply over from the right hand side back onto the racing line as I was about to overtake. Given the closing speed at the time, moving back onto the racing line without checking what's there doesn't seem the safest. I'm perfectly happy to let people back out, like to give a flash of the lights where appropriate, but people don't pull sharply into the outside lane of the motorway travelling slower than the traffic already there, so it seems reasonable not to expect them to do that on the track either.
Anyway, still had fun despite the stoppages, thanks to Adam and Fee for organising
Also nice to meet a couple of SE'ers I'd not met before
Jamie

Ian it was good to talk. There is one more 4 hours session on 23rd Nov. As far as I am know, that is the last one at KH.

Yeah me and a mate picked it up for sole use on track - it has got braided hoses but i think they are about 5 years old - we are going to bleed the brakes today and put in DOT4, looking at pads now as brake fade was pretty bad yesterday.Modena Scotland wrote:Mark
Is the 944 recent addition? For track use, I bet you may want braided hoses, Dot 5 fluid and better pads too.
Still good fun though considering the car only cost £1200

Next time i';; come over and pester you for a pax in the 7, dont think it will be as good as the fezza tho

Re: TrackScotland Trackday @ Knockhill 1st November
Hi, Im jeek i was the driver of the Gold BMW firstly i apologise if my or the other 535's driving annoyed anyone! The multi colour BMW didnt look as bad as that the bumper and wing damage came from his brush with the tyre wall! His lock up was due to his suspension being set way to hard so his brakes were like a switch off or locked up! with no inbeween. I know it looks tatty but we have spent alot of time gettig the body work ready for paint.(luckily after the crash he only need a bumper and wing) I know it could be off putting with a tatty car like that but i dont thin ayone has an actual complaint about his driving bar the one off.
The only time i had a moment was when i tried to follow one of you guys into duffus at the same speed
Bad idea as my car is twice the weight and half the grip!
After the first session i was aksed by Ian Forrest not to drift the track which i stopped doing apart from a few little powerovers. then one of the other guys there said i could drift as long as i used my discresion. Thats why i was always on the right letting everyone past so i could have a bit of clear track to do a big skid on!
Anyway im not here to start a fight just wanted to clear up a few things!
Cheers for an aweome day and i hope we will be allowed back!

Re: TrackScotland Trackday @ Knockhill 1st November
It's a difficult one...
I remember back when I was new to trackdays and the marshalls had a wee chat to me about slow down laps etc.
They said fine to pull over on the straights, but when you're coming up to the corners always get back onto the racing line, no matter what, to avoid 2/3 cars going round the corner at once. Just stick on the indicator and get back over.
I know that having a car pull out in front of you is not ideal...but if you're coming up for a corner and you know there is a car there, surely that gives you enough advance warning to break to let them in.
In saying that though....I know that I was guilty of refusing to let a certain supra back in yesterday....I could not get past the bloody thing on the straights, but his breaking points were so much earlier than mine and his corner speeds so much slower, that when he did eventually move over on the straights I was 100% going to make it past him!
I had a really good day. I know the red flags are not ideal, and the session ending early was a bit of a pain. It's just hard to regulate these things, a lot of the red flags were caused by cars/drivers that you would not have expected. Everyone every now and then has a problem out on track, something breaks, red mist comes down and mistakes are made, it's just a shame there were so many of them in one day.

Re: TrackScotland Trackday @ Knockhill 1st November

We briefly spoke after the TD while you were changing the tyres. (A Japanese guy with the Orange Caterham). As I posted I thought yours & your mates driving were fine.
Most marshals don't like drifting but the head marshals are ok with it so long as he knows you are in control. In fact he told me it is good to watch.
See you some other time.
Mark, you'd be surprised how direct the SLR is compared to the 360. Not as comfortable but sooooo much more fun on the track (drifts better too). I'll show you what I mean next time we are at KH together.

Work with the KH staff to try and get them to black flag and warn the culprits before they cause too much hassle. From what I've heard the Fiesta's were racing each other all afternoon. People need to speak with us, or KH staff on site at the time to deal with things like this. Its very easy to pick up on it after the event when nothing can really be done, but it needs to be dealt with there and then.
