Think this looks the simplest.eliseman wrote: I had the same dilemma two weeks ago when travelling down to catch the Eurotunnel.
DON'T use the M20 as the cars are seperated off and diverted down the A20 and into Ashford. You will get stuck for hours.
I would suggest that you use the M2 and then the A2 and come off at Canterbury. Go into Canterbury and up to Knackington Road (B2068) which is close to the Kent cricket ground.
Knackington Road becomes Stone Street (B2068). At it's most southerly end it crosses the M20 at J11 which is where cars have to rejoin to come off at J11A for the Eurotunnel terminal.
There are other more convoluted routes that will also get you to Stone Street avoiding Canterbury but if you don't know the local area stick with the one I mentioned above.
I missed all the traffic two weeks ago and actually got to Eurotunnel so early they gave us the option of an earlier crossing.
Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
I think my nightmare was caused as the euro tunnel stopped the trains for a period of time on Friday 24th evening. This caused gridlock and I suspect also caused a lot of people to decide to divert to Dover and try to jump on a ferry instead.
Hope you guys have an easier crossing

Right, how excited am I.
Client just confirmed a day of work I'd offered, in London, on 13th Aug. Day before Walshy Day nearby. Woohoo, what a result. Thats the bulk of the Frolic fees paid for, phew
This means I'm actually starting my long and winding road south next Tuesday morning, as my darling little girl will be on hols with her Mum and various Outlaws at Center Parcs Penrith and I feel a duty to visit her before I depart
Said holiday is part of the lengthy Terms and Conditions of my attending Frolic
So that's a week tomorrow then. Woohoo. Again.
I've taken a look at Kent travel routes to keep well away from Operation Stack and its ripple effects, and just have to hope I can make it from the end of the Walshy Day at 16.00 on Friday 14th, to my fixed price Shuttle booking at 21.50...I'll post updates from the traffic jams
Apart from Les, Stephen and Mark who are joining me for the Walshy Day, and perhaps a certain Mr Moncrieff who might be thuming a lift from the London area, my first RV will be with the Zandy crew near to Metz on the Saturday at 10.00hrs.
How's everyone else's planning coming along?

Very slowly, car is at MMC, still have toe eyes to make and fit, soft top conversion, harness bar and harnesses to fit, and brake pads to sort out.....and then there is lots of work, but I am sure it will all just fall into place.campbell wrote:Right, how excited am I.

Good stuff.
So the non-Zandies are outward on evening of Friday 14th from 17.20 to 21.50 on four different trains. Priceless.
Note - IBIS Budget St Quentin - at least that's where I'm booked
There is a "full" IBIS too, but IIRC it has no parking.
If I arrive at the terminal earlier than planned, I wonder if they will let me on an earlier Shuttle even though I've got a fixed ticket?
Bets on who's first in the bar. My money's on Donald...
I may just see you all at breakfast...
Then 7.15am latest departure from St Quentin on Saturday morning - I've suggested a 10am RV with the Zandies on the A31 near Metz. Aire de Lesmenils just south of J28 near Pont-a-Mousson - https://goo.gl/maps/TXnQp. 2 hrs 30.

Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
Campbell, we are staying in Monthieux just to the north of Lyon on the Saturday night. What is your plan from Metz to Orange, are you still planning a scenic route?
Where are you staying on the Saturday?
I fancy going from Monthieux on the Sunday morning through to Grenoble, Lus-la-Croix-Haute, Serres, Nyons to Orange unless the weathers not good and I just want to get to Orange quickly.
Steve.

Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
Do you still want to meet south of Metz? Might be pointless since the two groups are heading for different interim destinations for Saturday stopover. We're staying just outside Geneva on Sat night.
Current Sunday route - https://goo.gl/maps/jK4y2
Note - last bit that loops way south is simply a "fastest way to Orange from end of twisty bits" and diverting towards Nyons is an option.
Did you pick your Sunday route for any particular reason? Mine is based on some input from the early Stelvio 1999 route book, although my brother is going to try to talk me into some other better roads tonight...

Ventoux a worthy (straight line) diversion rather than that loop south?
