I had given up the idea of being able to do a European trip again, but have always wanted to drive Spa and this is looking like a mega S_E trip. Obviously if I did have a bash I would like to do the whole trip with the group, but realistically it would probably be straight to Spa, and do Sat and Sun if the car survived.

However as most of my life has been played off the cuff, I could take it in stages and see how it goes. Not too bothered about driving the Ring itself especially with two days at Spa, but would not like to miss the socialising.

As it is still a thought, I can leave it until it actually came to booking hotels and Euro-tunnel.

I reckon if you manage the weekends camping trip you should be ok with a 2-3 day spa trip tut :thumbsup

No probs with the tracks or driving in Europe Kenny, its that effing 1300 mile trip round trip to Dover when you get out of Scotland and down to Middle, and even worse, Southern England.

However for this I would grit my teeth and bare it. Just been talking to Robin, i could stay with him on Thursday night and then leave around 0200 for the drive down to Walshy's which would break it up a bit. Not doing North Weald so can spectate or pax, then leave around 1600 and and go into hibernation for the drive down to Canterbury for a Pikey Lodge.

That would be stage 1.

I think the consensus is to stay at the Burgstube whilst at the Ring - I haven't yet met Martin, but he seems willing and friendly! I noticed on their website that they do English breakfasts, which are nearly as good as Scottish breakfasts and certainly will be more popular than the normal garlic sausage on carpet underlay! :-) I don't know exact costs, but it will be amongst the cheaper options I think.

I am happy to make a block booking there, and also at Canterbury/Ashford Travelodge/Travelinn/Holdiay Inn.

What I need, by email to robin@iddon.no-ip.com is your proper name, whether you're sharing with anybody or not (please make your own sharing arrangements - I'm not going to be house nanny), whether you want to stay at Burgstube Friday only or Thursday and Friday. For those travelling out on Friday morning, let me know if you want to stay in Canterbury (or Ashford if that's what we select) and I'll make you a booking there too. Please put "BLITZ" in the subject so that I can file away everybody's demands.

I EXPECT TO BE PAID. WHETHER OR NOT YOU TURN UP. REALLY.

I'll be happy with cash (euros, please), or we can do bank transfers and variations on that theme; also you can settle your bill directly with the hotel, but please let me know which of these things you think you'll be doing :-)

Cheers,
Robin

In that case Paul forget the Ring and just do Sat and/or Sun at Spa, especially as you can now get it for £400 as opposed to £600.

He has offered all the S_E'rs who are doing Spa on the Saturday, a special offer of £105 if they would like to do Sunday as well. This is not on the site and only applies to us, so please do not pass it on elsewhere.

If anybody is interested then let me know.

Tut,

A day at Spa for the price of 4 hours at KH.....as no-brainers go that's the best one yet.

Count me in and let me know how BaT want to be paid.

Take care,

Frank

It is by prepayment Frank as opposed to on the day or via BAT's Web site, but I will handle that when I have numbers.

Tut,

There are at least a couple of cars going with two pilots on board, so if being driven for some stages helps you out at all, then say the word. Would be fantastic to have you along to keep the morale up during our extensive raid upon the Ardennes and Eifel regions ;-)

Premier Inn at Ashford is a good one and can only be about a year old. AndyA, Robbie and I stayed on the way to FFX. We didn't eat in the restaurant but did have a beer. It was very pleasant and contemporary. Not sure how open the bar will be though, as it was very quiet in June and perhaps even more dead in November. :tired

Sorry that I can't make the trip but sounds like it will be epic :thumbsup

For the few extra pounds, I'm quite tempted by the Premier Inn Ashford actually.

Being on the M20, it could also be considered more "en route" than Canterbury/Dunkirk...

All things going to plan I'll be at Spa too! Always loved the F1 there and propsect of taking the exige on track is too tempting to pass up.

Haven't seen any mention of the Rosyth - Zeebruge ferry... is it a viable option for getting there? I plan to be coming along with 2nd driver though so the chunnel option works.

Hopefully be a good chance to meet some SEers, particularly given I couldn't make the AMP trackday.

EDIT: Has the price gone up on Bookatrack?

Cheers

Mark

I have clearance for this from the wife, have only just seen the post, but need to check my remaining holiday allowance having been away for 5 weeks honeymoon, i am running on a small number of days remaining.....

However, i see that in reality it is really only a half day Thursday and a day on Friday, so all should be good.

I'd love to tie this in with a Walshy day, if there is the spare place going Robin? If not, no worries, will fit one in with others at some point before my 30th in December.

To be fair, i have not even found out if there is space left, and my only slight concerns are the knocking noise that Robin was going to look at (possible engine mount) and also doing the ring and Spa on a half worn set of 48 's. The latter not too much of a concern!

Thanks Campbell, thought of that whilst we are sitting in the M25 traffic jam.
