Knockhill coporate day, karting and single seaters

Post by alicrozier » Thu Nov 23, 2006 12:32 pm

I was down at KH yesterday as a guest of Nicola's work along with a few others including Kerry McLean (knowing Kerry got me an invite). :D

Good fun at the Karting where Kerry was very impressive and got fastest lap and 2nd overall. It was quite slippy and I manged to spin in the chicane in one of the heats.
Nicola did well coming 4th overall beating some of the boys. :D

Then it was into the Seat Cupras for instruction and some demo laps. They were quite impressive in the wet but lots of ABS, ESP etc to help you out and pretty fast in a straight line (I overtook a number of the single seaters). ;)
The instruction was helpful in general but curiously he was telling me to change down earlier under braking (which I refused to do). The instructor then did this on the demo laps and overrevved the engine...
Then into the new blackbird engined single seaters which were good fun and quick in the corners but woefully restricted. They said half throttle but felt like less. Quite friendly on the limit though and driftable despite the lack of power ('cos it was wet).
One of the guys managed to lose it on the way into Clarks though and hit the tyre barrier at the apex. Nose cone off and bent wishbones...
This happened while I was demo lapping with the instuctor in the Cupra and I spotted the damaged car parked at the apex before he did (the marshalling was pretty sparse so no flag). Quick shout of "car on the apex!".
Then it was a reasonable lunch before heading home. Overall great fun but I'd be a bit disappointed if I had to pay for it...

Do they mention that in their bumf before you book on? I (and I guess everyone) would be gutted to spend 100+ notes for a shot in a cigar with half throttle :?
