SIDC - Knockhill, Saturday 18th September 9-1pm
Re: SIDC - Knockhill, Saturday 18th September 9-1pm
A video from me of a superb SIDC track day. The quality is a bit down due to the limitation of my editing software (upgrade on the way).
It is my last one of the season so I was a little demob happy and taking a few more liberties than normal . A great day to end the year.

Great videos Willie - you can even see blue sky in places as welltvrolet wrote:For folks who don't lurk around the Scoobies newsgroup, here's a copy of the links to the in-car footage I just posted up.
I cut out lots of just pounding round an empty (or emptyish) trach and picked bits with lots of other cars.

Scoobys, ELises and 7s, plus both Evoras, BMW, Fiesta?, Evo Clio and more. There's a quiet bit in the middle with an empty track then another group of cars.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQYStpelEHI
Bit quieter at the beginning so cars running a bit quicker, then usual Scoobies and Elises plus VS, Supra (cooling down I think), Scirocco, Fiesta? etc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5KFlcpZrOQ
More of the usual suspects - Scoobies, Lotuses, 7s etc., plus BMW, MX5, Focus?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6qpOp_taXk
More Scoobs, Elises, 7s plus added Mini, Fiesta?, Focus?, Clio, MX5, 380z and a glimpse of the Atoms.
Apologies if my car identification skills are weak; and there are other cars in there too that I probably haven't picked out.

Re: SIDC - Knockhill, Saturday 18th September 9-1pm
I went along for a look on my way to Edinburgh airport but didn't get to Knockhill until the back of 11.
Surprised to see so many Lotuses on a Subaru track day. Was impressed by the driving manners though, everyone giving plenty of room. Loads different from what I remember of the the old hot hatch days of about 8 years ago.
I walked right round the track then had a nosey in the pits, but by that time I think all the Elises were either on track or away home.
Anyway, I'll definetely be at the next one with Ed's old 135.

Wow that's impressive with the rear camera, speed & revs and the circuit map. Some quick laps too, and it looked like you were being held up a little?David wrote:A video from me of a superb SIDC track day. The quality is a bit down due to the limitation of my editing software (upgrade on the way).

Indeed - love the overlays of the track layout, rear camera angle, lap times etc. In car video technology has moved on a lot in the past few years.tvrolet wrote:Wow that's impressive with the rear camera, speed & revs and the circuit map. Great Video Dave. How did you get the throttle and brake positions?tvrolet wrote:Wow that's impressive with the rear camera, speed & revs and the circuit map. We were held up by a few cars, some worse than others. Gets real bad when I have to spend three laps behind a car which won't pull over..... All I can do is back off or go back into the pit lane.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I've never seen sub minute laps in traffic before so it is a credit to all the others on track at the time. I don't know about being held up a little but I do like a clear track, particuarly in the braking zone so no PBs but exciting enough.

I'm recording RPM, throttle, brake, oil pressure, and temperature with a Racelogic input module and you can make a gauge or bar graph for them in the video. It uses the car's CAN interface or you can just use the the analogue feeds from the sensors. It was all a bit of a rush to get it working so I'll maybe think a bit more carefully about what works in the video and what's just recorded for analysis next time out.

Agreed, Mass, it can be frustrating. More so with a more modest powered Se7en than your 190 bhp, but...Modena Scotland wrote:We were held up by a few cars, some worse than others. Gets real bad when I have to spend three laps behind a car which won't pull over.....
...is that what you were doing at 3:56-4:07 in David's video?Modena Scotland wrote: All I can do is back off or go back into the pit lane.

I thought track etiquette was very good, there were a few trains of traffic that took a lap or two to sort themsevles but that's always going to happen on a busy track. I can't recall being held up at any point.
A couple of cars could have made their intentions a bit clearer at times, some cars weren't moving very far off line when letting people past, Ed who was paxing thought the same, but it wasn't a big issue.

Re: SIDC - Knockhill, Saturday 18th September 9-1pm
Jason, during the session when Dave was recording the footage, the cars weren't holding me up much. I lined myself up next to the guy in front to remind him I was behind approaching the hairpin, I didn't overtake him. I do this often and usually the cars will let me overtake but don't always work.....
It was later on during the day I had to spend a few laps behind cars with faster straight speed. I think Jen was in the SLR at the time. Surprisingly, the top speed of CR and SLR are very similar at KH, only 2mph difference so SLR isn't all that much faster on the straights as you may think. I think your Cat's top speed wasn't far off mine.

Your right Mass, it was when I was out with you. I think we spent at least 3 or 4 laps behind one car who was quicker on the straights but much slower on the corners, we just knew every time the car in front zoomed away we would be right behind him at the next corner. Very frustrating. Once we held back for half a lap to get a clear run it was great though.
Time after time I hear the marshalls mention in the briefing if there's a faster car on the corners than you let them past on the next straight, even if you are quicker on the straight, but some people just ignore that. Are they worried they'll get held up on the straight or something?

Take the inside line at the Hairpin and stay along side him, don't overtake him, give him a friendly wave, if he is faster you will not be able to anyway, you have not broken any rules, he will get the message, and so will the Chief Marshaller in Control.
Never had any problem with this, but obviously stay tight on the inside and do not lose it or you will feel a right tit.

Sorry for anyone that was held up during the day
I do stress strongly in the briefing and in the info pack for all drivers to use their mirrors and let faster cars through, pulling over and lifting off where necessary.
If you let me know the guilty parties (by PM or email please and not in public), I'll drop them an email to remind them that they should pull over before our next event. I can also let the marshalls know to keep an eye on them in the future.

Jen, it was good to take you, dad and your mate on the track, see you soon.

John, it's not you at all. I know very well you organise and control the TDs in the best possible way
There were only two cars which frustrated me and they are both regulars
