If we stay at the Sonnehof we have to organize taxis for stone/cow/beer interfacing. If we stay at the Tiergarten, we're already there, ready for some bovine/granite action ...

On the other hand, we could stay at the Sonnenhof all night and molest the Llama as per usual.

Cheers,
Robin

Re: the Walshy day, I've booked provisionally the other two spaces (along with Neil and Wheelie, making a 4 person day in total) - one place is for Campbell will - if nobody wants the other space, I'll take it - otherwise speak up and it's yours. I just booked it to try to make sure it would go to somebody on the trip. The reason I'm not just taking the other space myself is that I'll be sharing Campbell's car in all probability and it's a pain to car share on a Walshy day. Even if I am not on the day properly, I'm hoping Walshy will let me drive the auto-test circuit at the end ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

Re: hotels. One night in the Tiergarten is 99eu for a twin. There is also the possibility of staying at Sabine's Fuchshof (really, that's what it is called). I don't know what the difference in price is - more or less the same probably - but the fuchshof has a total of six rooms, so we could perhaps fill it?

If I get definite interest in this, I'll ask them if it's possible - it might already have some other people in it, which will mean we couldn't really do it in style. Also they may baulk at making a block booking of the whole thing as they've probably already had animal-house style parties happening there ;-)

Either way I'm happy to try and make bookings for us all, but I need commitment that you want a room and an understanding that you'll pay for it even if you don't show up on the day.

Cheers,
Robin

count me in for whatever accommodation you thinks best. As for the night after walshy, close to the tunnel sounds like a plan but I'll go with whatever

I'm a possible for the trip, and would probably do both Spa days.

On the accommodation front, the Burgstube have space: http://www.burgstube.com/ €36 each for the night.
Dave,
That wouldn't be a problem at all - if you'd like the house we could sleep 10 of you in there and another 4 in the Burgstube, which would work out at 505 Euro for the night, if any of you needed Thursday too it would be fine.
If you'd like to go ahead and book please let me know
All bookings must be secured with a 10% deposit
Best regards,
Martin

Dave, that looks ideal ... and is comfortably in staggering distance of all important venues :-)

Dave/Robin,

I talked to Martin earlier tonight as I'm planning to stay at the Burgstube on the Thursday eve as well as Fri.

Sounds like they are fairly quiet.

Take care,

Frank

LOL.

OK.

I vote we stay at either:

- Travelodge Ashford on Thurs eve, positioned well for Chunnel and hopefully also far enough away from major trouble with the Fast Welshman. Currently £32.50 per room.

- Or if you REALLY want "atmosphere", we could do Travelodge "Canterbury". Actually just outside Canterbury, but a very credible stagger from a couple of nice pubs in the village of Boughton-under-Blean which I know from previous stopovers for continental adventures. Short taxi ride at worst. But get this. Currently just £23.50 per room per night!!

I have a sentimental attachment to the place we stayed at the Ring in 2003...was that hotel Zurburg, or Sonnehof, or whatever? But on balance I'd much rather stay at Sabine's, sounds like a blast! However, all in all, I will go with what the experienced people recommend and since Robin seems up for booking stuff on our behalf, I'm just going to do what I'm told!

Campbell, Zurburg is the Adams Family place - the novelty has long since worn off and nobody really likes that much these days. Sonnehof is a proper hotel; very nice rooms, outdoor Llamas, etc. Problem is that it is in Adenau not Nurburg, so given most of us will be there just the one night and I suppose the majority will want to eat at the Pistenklause (steak-and-stone heaven) then I think we should stay in Nurburg. Given that Frank/Dave have noised up the Burgstube already and it's a fair bit cheaper than the Tiergarten, that makes it an easy decision I think.

I'm liking the sound of the Canterbury option (much cheapness) - no idea what the B2068 will be like early doors, but it looks to be only 35 minutes from the terminal. I am suspicious of Travelodges as they are often terrible, but if there's a pub near by then I don't really care as we'll just be sleeping there.

Cheers,
Robin

HI Guys

Is someone making the reservations ?

I'm happy with the group vote.

Ron and i are toying with staying somewhere on route to the ring or at the ring on the thursday night.

Robin, I'll most likely call you later mate, and we can chat this through.

I was SO gutted to not be racing at Spa, this will go a fair way to making up for it, and here's hoping we get Team Still Game on board with us!

Another SE epic is on the cards.

Steak on the stone Friday night, with a post lap pint, an inflatible steering wheel for McKean, and some inflatible water wings for walshy to protect his arms - genius :thumbsup

Sounds fine.

Travelodge Canterbury reviews here. Typically, a couple of 1-stars but plenty of favourable reviews and as a single-night stopover, I doubt we are going to care? Alternatively go the Lenny Henry option at Ashford for £50 - double the cost. Onsite Beefeater will ensure some liquid refreshment, similar setup to the Nottingham one we often used for Donnie / Club Lotus weekends.

Can't confess to having driven the B2068 but it's a Roman Road, it avoids the m-way, so what's not to like ;-)

For sure, it's a 2km walk from the Travelodge to the wee village of Boughton, and the pub, but as I also said, nothing a couple of Joe's can't sort out.

I confess I'm wavering between this and Ashford (which has both Travelsplodge and Premier Inn options, as detailed in this thread).

I have just had an e-mail from Jonny Leroux, BAT, thanking us for our support on Tuesday and the standard of driving.

He has offered all the S_E'rs who are doing Spa on the Saturday, a special offer of £105 if they would like to do Sunday as well. This is not on the site and only applies to us, so please do not pass it on elsewhere.

If anybody is interested then let me know.
