RATTLING

Post by PICKY » Mon Jul 30, 2007 3:13 pm

Hi all,

I picked up my S2 on Saturday and had a wonderful time, driving back up from Birmingham to Peebles. I have just noticed that there seems to be a rattling noise coming from the rear. Sounds like a loose metal plate or something similar. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Undertray is probaly loose, go round all the bolts with an 8mm socket and tweak them all tight.

Also empty all the loose change fomr under the seat. You'll find about £20 in pennies...

Its probably your undertray! IIRC you need a 10 mil spanner/socket to do them up. cheers

Actually out of the 24 bolts 20 are 8mm and 4 are 10mm if memory serves. so you are 83 1/3 % wrong ;)

Bet its the 8mm ones that are loose though....

On most S2 undertrays the bolts around the rim are M5 with 8mm heads and the four center bolts are M8 with 13mm heads, though some are domed/cap heads instead.

However, on the S2 there is a support plate that lives in the lower rear wheel arches -approximately triangular and more-or-less vertical. That is often loose - you would need to remove the undertray to see it and re-fasten it.

Cheers,
Robin

Yeah Ross, was about to say, get up and see Ali at SLS, you will find a post in here regarding him establishing himself having broken away from Murray's.

Sounds like your car could do with a once over matey, then you can start adding extras...

Will give you a ring tonight and you can tell me all about it!
