For some reason the battery light in the SS has come on...
Basically when im giving it the boot it goes out but when im off the loud pedal it flickers and then comes on. It also comes on in 30 zones etc etc.
Any ideas whats up with it?! TIA

Does the battery light not come on if the alternator isn't charging it?
If so, maybe the alternator is gubbed..
But then, I've just stumbled in to the Technical section by accident...

Earth straps is a red herring I am afraid. The light comes on when the regulator detects that it isn't producing the required voltage. That's measured locally, nothing to do with the voltage at the battery. If there was excessive resistance in the earth strap that would actually make it easier for the alternator to get the voltage up.
S2 alternator is different, but I think you can make it work by transplanting some of plastic covers at the back from one to the other.
You should also check the wiring is OK - there are two wires at the back of the alternator and they sometimes break - however this would result in the battery running flat and the light not coming on.
I have an S1 alternator here - not in great condition (the chassis is cracked) but yours for the asking ...
Cheers,
Robin

Stu160's spare alternator is sat in my garage, its a refurbed unit. I am sure if you give him a shout he will offer it to you at the same low price he offered it to me....
