Temp senders... (VLLC)

Morning all,

I'm aobut to get stuck into EFI'ing the the Porka (Or should that be f'ing up?) and I need to fit a water temp sender somewhere. I have a candidate, a nice big M18 threaded hole straight into the waterway at the back of the block and I have a sender or 2 spare from the Elise....

Does anyone know what the thread on the Rover temp senders is? I think it's a BSP fitting maybe 1/8" but I don't really understand BSP/NPT/USP/USB/USA/ETC/ETC

The thread measures 11.90mm across at its widest if that helps....

Might be but it looks far too coarse a thread??

Is M12 the same pitch as an M10?
I have an M10 bolt could I check it with that?

All the senders I can find are M10 or 1/8NPT....

Yup, I know nothing at all about non-metric threads. Pretty sure M12 would be M12x1.5 normal thread.

I think all German cars even from pre-war era use metric fasteners.

If that VW/Audi engine is anything like the DX/EX engines found in VW's there should be a water temp sensor at the front of the cylinder head in a plastic or alloy flange. Surely easier to use a standard one than go fitting another? Or are you doing it for a new gauge?

There is a temp sender for the gauge but it's notoriously crap. The lump has CIS Jetronic injection and all the temp stuff is driven by bi-mettalic strips! No electrics beyond solenoid valves.

There is a big thermo time switch which can go leaving the M18 hole in the block in the water way, I need to fit a modern sendcer in that hole.
