My oil leak.

Those who followed me on Tut Towers may remember I had a slight oil leak (that's slight as in James Bonds Aston slight). Previously suggested to be leaking cam seals form a very quick check from more knowledgable folk over a pint in teh semi darkess.

Closer examination from Falklands reveals iot to be a leaking oil pipe, one has corroded through and the other was looking ill.

Not great on a 4 year old motorcar but there you go.

Pete

Feeling very poor faction.

Errrm.

Look it was a conversation on my mobile whilst trying to keep my 2 and a half year old from throwing herself in front of the Bo'ness steam train so I just established what i need to know then filtered out some of the rest.

Pipes from the bottom of the engine heading off towards the oil-water cooler (VVC engine NOT an oil cooler). Does that make sense?

We are rubbish at cleaning the car and it gets used all 365 days a year if that has contributed towards such things it wouldn't surprise me, but it would disappoint me.

Pete

(Tryting to ignore the increasingly more strident voice that is saying chop it in for a 111R. I'm well into 4 figures in the run up to, and aftermath of, TT.)

That may have been misinterpreted - Falklands never said anything other than the oil is coming from the corroded pipe.
I suspected it might be a leaky cam seal, but Falklands have diagnosed it as a leaky oil pipe.
I was too lazy/ too busy to look properly myself*.

Pete

*AlthoughI sometimes suspect if I read/posted less on here, and generally read the 'net less, then i would have altogether more constructive life..

OK, so it's the pipes to the bolt on oil/water cooler that's fitted to VVC engines - makes sense.

Should probably look at coating them in something to stop them corroding, but then again, maybe it won't be your problem in 4 years from now ;-)

I wouldn't worry about washing it - has no impact on whether or not bits of your engine corrode :-)

I don't know that 111R is much more reliable or cheaper to maintain, BTW (and the depreciation is something else again!).

Cheers,
Robin

Having re-read that I shoud pledge to learn how my car works once and for all - if only so i can stop sounding like such a fcuk numpty when describing it's ills.

Also posted on TenKFeet's related thread, but I wouldn't rule out Falkland's diagnosis, as the same thing happened on mine at exactly 4 yrs (19k mls.)

I would hate to give criticism where it isn't due, so just for clarity I do not doubt Falklands diagnosis at all. Not one bit. Completely accept what they have told me with no reservations whatsoever, they have in fact been very helpful.

Goodness it's easy to have your words misinterpreted in a text enviroment.
