Welding - FALC

Morning all,

I'm thinking about learning to weld but I don't know where to start.
Which is the easest to learn: MIG, Arc or gas?

Ideally I'd love to learn to TIG but that is some way off....

I just completed a welding course. It covered intro to acetyline(sp?) and intro to MIG. also did a bit of MMA (stick), and was shown TIG but didn't actually try it myself.

stick welding is pretty easy
oxy i liked because you can take your time and make a decent job, even if you're not particularly skilled
MIG is ideal as the gun feeds the wire and once it's set up right is really fast. problem though if you're learning is getting used to the speed.

TIG i would leave until you've mastered the others (ie MIG) as the consumables are v expensive and it's easy to cock up a rod.

basically, IMO, start with oxy and MIG and get the hang of them, and maybe fit in a bit of arc/stick/MMA. then think about TIG..

MIG is relativly easy to pick up. TIG takes a bit of practice but you can do some lovely herringbone welds, If memory serves me right though equipment is pricey. Gas is better if your working on rusty cars.

Gas it also useful for heating things up too. And ligting BBQs

You may find an Oxy- Acyteline BBQ leaves things burnt on the inside raw on the outside.

As we have just had the HSE in today.

usefull if your finding it hard to sleep.

A jet engine sausage toaster sounds more fun and it runs LPG all you need is a turbo and some tube.
