The Liz has been neglected of late, and now has a flat battery... I'm going to pop it on charge see if I can revive it.

Are there any likely problems after having a pancaked battery?

The battery will probably not regain it's former capacity, but with gentle coaxing and continued efforts to charge it, you will probably make it work again. The car's own alternator is a really good charger, so I would guess jumping it and then leaving it running on a fast idle for a while would be a good start.

If the battery is a wee bit weak you can pop some bat aids into the holes which are a bit like sterident for batteries and clean up the plates thus improving the conductivity.

Got into the car on Monday afternoon, battery completely dead, not even a flicker of Stac lights, headlights had been left on when I got back on Sunday.

Put her on the battery charger for 24 hours, and seems fine again.

If it's totally flat and you have a variable rate charger make sure you charge it on HIGH for a few hours before going to normal . . .

I believe this helps the battery regain as much capacity as it can . . . slow charging it will not help it . . .

You reaaly need to fast charge for say 3 hours then slow for 24 . . .

It's been on charge most of the morning on "normal" and seems ok car started fine.

Problem now is my alarm won't unset but the immobilizer override seems to work ok. I've one of the old ones with the key so I've switched it off for now. But I was wondering if it's possible to reactivate the dongle thingy with just a dead dongle and an immobilizer override thing?

I think its in the manual, will check later. Off to interview in a bit!

Whether luck or judgement Fergus, that was exactly what I did, full charge for a few hours, then low charge overnight.

What AM I saying, of course it never had anything to do with luck............
