Right, Im about to get a new set of AD07's to replace the worn out and nail punctured originals.
Does anyone know if a standard Elise S2 (02 plate) can take the 195 fronts or is it just the Exige and others that have wider wheels to take the 195s?

I'm about to put a set of 195's on my S2 and they'll fit fine. Toyo even say that you can put the super sticky R888's on std s2 rims!

Thanks, which Toyo's are they? I haven't bought anything yet but just want something for all weathers with no track day antics.

A few people on SELOC who I emailed run T1-Rs and R888s on the 5.5J std s2 rims. I had the 195 front T1Rs on my wheels for the 40 miles and they were fine albeit not bedded in.

Why not? What reasons are there for sticking with 175 tyres on the front?

Steering feel, less tramlining, they're better than any alternatives as a road tyre to name a few.

From experience, the 195/225 T1Rs felt way better than the RE040s I had which were 175 fronts - braking / motorway and in the wet (all in the same day).
What 195 fronts did you have on Si?

I had 185 T1-Rs and I thought they were completely gash compared to the Bridgestones and the AD07s. But I think my R888s and A048s are also worse than the AD07s for steering feel.
I can't see any reason to go for anything other than the AD07s as a pure road tyre unless you can only afford T1-Rs.
Your front left locking up wont be solved by changing tyres, it's a weight distribution thing that a geo might help fix, although that might only be possible with adjustable dampers to sort the corner weighting.

Well a lot of people find the Toyos rubbish. They're squirmy and just don't seemt to tell you what's going on that well. The 48s and 888s tramline too much for my liking on the road, something that was emphasised a lot when I had the front lowered. The AD07s for me are the best on the road and have much more grip than you really need.

1. As Simon says, more a weight distribution problem than tyre width, also check brakes.

3. Potentially, but fixing #1 might be more beneficial.

Toyos are rubbish to begin with, no argument there, but for an average driver (ie me!) they are predicatble and behave in all conditions. They let go gradually and progressively and even I can catch them!
They are horrible to begin with though and very sensitive to pressures.
Personally I will be sticking with them as the fronts have loads left but the rears are toast.
