Engine error codes 0444, 0076, 2648 and 0508

Further to my previous thread about the fact that I have the MIL light permanently on in my car. I drove at a massive 2pm to the local garage I have no power at all. The local garage had a OBDII reader and gave me the codes 0444, 0076, 2648 and 0508. The local garage owner said that was too complex for him to even start thinking about it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do next as I can't drive the car anywhere and have no idea where I should get the breakdown company to take it?

HELP Please.

Looks like I'm not going to TT2007  nightmare

Did they try and clear them and re-set?

Codes here http://www.gglotus.org/ggtech/elise-obd/elise-obd.htm
P0076 Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Low

P0444 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open

P0508 Idle Air Control System Circuit Low

P2648 A Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit Low

Hopefully they are the correct codes etc for the Toyota engine.

No they did not reset them. The guy has no experience of Lotus cars. Is that easy to do? Would you think that would help it is running dreadfully?

Thanks for the codes. They sound about right given the way it is running.

I had my MIL light on a couple of weeks ago, and thanks to Lawrence and his lap-top we checked them and he cleared them and it's not come back since.

It was a missfire, caused by a loose HT lead, which I had fixed before the MIL came on :?

I would have thought he should have been able to clear the codes after taking a note of them, and then ran the car to see if they re-appeared.

Thanks very much Mack. :thumbsup

The MIL light went off whilst I was parking the car up in the garage forecourt after the mechanic looked at the codes. Perhaps he did clear them. The garage is shut just now. The light did not clear when Woody and I were checking it out last night. I wonder if it is worth me going back and running it for a while to see if the misfire has gone then :?:

Give it a go, my understanding is that some faults if they don't re-occur after several starts then clear automatically, but are stored in the memory so can be checked at services etc.

From the codes it looks to me (as if I know  ) that it's electrical/electronic, maybe a bit of water/damp got in somewhere recently and has now dried out. :?

Water in a loom connector or a loom connector hanging off.

These things are too unrelated to be a genuine failure of each of these components all at once.

The "blah blah blah circuit low" means that the circuit should be driven by the ECU but appears to be shorted to ground I think - but as it's a generic code, it could mean something more specific.

The "blah blah blah circuit open" means that the circuit from the ECU to the sensor or actuator is open - i.e. there's a break in it somewhere. Again, it's a generic code and could mean something more specific on the Elise.

If you cannot find an unplugged connector, start uplugging each connector in turn and look for green stuff/water inside the connetors - this might well cause the same problem by creating a path from connector to earth.

Cheers,
Robin

Hi Robin

I am completely non technical when it comes to cars. Can you please point me in the direction of these connectors in my S2 Exige?

Thanks,
Ken.

They are underneath the ironing board at the back (folk sometimes wrongly call it a wing)

Very good Mac. I think I can find that. What am I looking for once I open the boot and get into the engine bay please? Are they by the silver box behind the engine?

Might sound like a flippant remark - but you are basically looking for any and all electrical connections and terminations in there.

Find the Idle Air Control Valve - It will be somewhere around the throttle body and trace where all the wires go from there.

Give that the IACV, the Intake sensor & rocker are all on the inlet side and that the yota engine is mounted back 2 front (the inlet side is next to the bulkhead) the chances are that the purge cylinder will also be on the same loom.

If it drives your welcome to bring it up here tonight - I'm doing some minor work on Mandys car and a bit of diagnostic work on Rob's (g72 9NE - no 101)

Thanks for the offer very kind. Right now it is not drivable at all. I basically have no power at all. As soon as I try and accelerate it dies.

I have just restarted it and the MIL light has come back on again and nothing has changed with the running.

JJ is coming for a run in the countryside to have a look for me in true SE style.

He will know his way around the car better than me.

Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks,

Ken.
