Gents but of advice...

Girlfriends MX-5 is back together finally folloing her spin 4 months ago (Useless stealers) 2 alloys, geo, countless phonecalls and £300 later (Council responded correctly unfortunatly so no claim) but looks like it is coked up. Behind the throttle butterfly is loads of black gunge and it has very poor power near tickover with the revs dropping to 500 or less on occasions.

Has anyone used carb cleaner? Is it worth getting that 10k boost stuff for £20 or the halfrauds own for £5?

Trying to convince her that 2k revs is not the time to change gear. I doubt that this has helped the situation... Need to get her a very heavy insole for her right shoe!

Try and get a hold of the Forte stuff (might need to go your local back street garage type place for it).

It came out years ago when I worked in the motor trade and we were all well suspect about it's claims, but having seen it work first hand I was amazed.

If ever I'm working on an older car I always pay the extra cash for it.

Be a good idea to do an engine flush too.

PS: What ever you do go for - make sure that it say that it's safe for CATs

I've got a tin of Forte fuel flush which will clean up the Valves/injectors that you can have foc. It's the same stuff i used to squeese the 136bhp out my engine You can do a wee trick where you hold the revs up and let the car sook it in through a vacume hose. This really blows all the crap out it. then juse make sure the tanks about empty, fire the remaining half can in the tank, and take it fot a roasting. You wont beleive the difference . To clean the butterfly it'll have to be removed and soaked in brake fluid (removes carbon really quick) for the best results.

Due to location (Skipton!) I used redex stuff in about 10 litres of fuel and used that carb cleaner spray (tho it kept stalling when I removed the air hose?) loads of white smoke but did the trick! The idle is sorted and the g/f is complaining about the power! (and driving like a loon now! OMFG scary stuff!)
