S2 Exige wheel nuts

Post by kenny » Sun May 27, 2007 11:58 pm

Please indulge the lack-of-paying-attention..... What wheel nuts should I be ordering as an upgrade. ie wont sheer off just by giving a slight twist.

clickety

Oh and where can I get another wheel key?

Kenny

Please tell me that you do not still have locking wheel nuts on?

Even newbies know to ditch those as soon as they get a car, because sure as hell you will either lose the key socket, or strip the two lugs off.

These will do you Kenny:

BMW and Vauxhall also do them, think mine are beemer ones.

Tut, it's nothing to do with the locking one on the S2, if anything it's the best of the lot. It's the spline tool key that's supplied to fit the non-locking bolts. If they are over torqued, the tool just shears and you're buggered.

Anyone with an S2 with those bolts that doesn't tighten them with a torque wrench at the correct setting should get rid of them!

Robin, the ones on EGOR will be the Lotus longer bolts to fit the OZ wheels, which should fit Kenny's car. AFAIK the 135R doesn't have any locking bolts on it, maybe one of the other owners can confirm that.

I am also going to need to sort this in the next few days before the new wheels go on, I noticed the splined bit that came with the car is seriously chewed up.

ah so. Shows my lack of knowledge of the S2.

The wheel nuts were obviously an upgrade over those on the S1(sic), but to be honest, the original tin covered ones that were used were crap as well.

Maybe check with Geary that they'll be ok, not sure if the 'yota cars need different sizes but as they're the longer ones they should be ok.
