Heater Fan.

Post by pete » Sun May 27, 2007 7:39 am

My Heater fan has stopped working.

Where do I start? Does this happen often? Any ideas welcome...

Happens lots, 'fraid it's likely a clam off job... :(

Yes, crap resistor pack and fan design on S2 - fan sits in water and the electrical gubbins corrodes and stops working. Clam off, new fan (with some drain holes drilled into it), big bill. It's not that hard to DIY if you have somewhere sheltered to remove clam and someone to help you do it.

Cheers,

Sunday morning. Time for a reply, 6 minutes.

Once agian I stand in awe (OK sit).

But bad news, clam off!! Especially as this is my garage at the moment.

Ho hum, I'd just better bring a hat to TT. And some gloves.

Dont know how you get into the heater though ( see pic below) as the ducting disappears into the abis . I see Elise parts sell a fan only .

Alan that would be great!

Why did you take yours off? What else can I do whilst it is off (replacing the vertical bar that you attach the tow thing to has to favourite, mine is rusty)?

How long did it take? And most importantly did you manage to get it all back together again???

He took his off for the same reason I did took mine off last month, broken radiator. It's not that difficult a job to take it off or put it back together, you just have to make sure you know where all the bolts came from. I'd assume you can get to the heater bits once you remove the rad and mounts. Have a look in the service manual, should explain it.

If its under warranty, I would get it done before it runs out... estimated bill is around £650 otherwise.

I also painted the towing bar . It took me quite a while , much longer than I needed to due to making it very awkward for myself. I also put things back in the wrong order , took my time and was a bit pedantic about panel lines , coolant bleeding and checking for leaks. At a guess 6 hours of actual working over 3 days . I wont mention getting my hand stuck in the door hinge . I have a couple of shims left over but other than that it was fine. Seized fastners could make things interesting.

The other culprits are the driving light brackets, which rust almost as quickly as the towing bracket...worth a lick of paint too while you're at it.

Clam off can be done on your own, but far better to have someone handy for lifting it.

(And of course as soon as it's re-assembled your radiator will blow :D)

Would offer a hand but I got my own problems to sort for TT

Is yours under warranty?
If not how about a joint attack? (ie we could do them both). How hard can it be?

No Pete my car is not under warranty so yes a joint attack would be great I think we need some technical guidance as well though. Sounds like we have the start of a plan.

Yes Woody we would love your assistance I am sure
