Scottish Elises

For the last few weeks I have been chasing a vibration, following on from getting the tracking done.

I now know it is probably not the tyres (but am going to swap a wheel at a time with a spare to double check) and having had a look yesterday there is some play in the drivers side upper front wishbone mount. The passengers side has no play in it.

So my next question is, bushes - where from, how much, and how many to replace? Easy task? DIY?

JK if you do decide to change yours DIY I'll gladly come and assist if you want as mine should be pretty fooked after 8 years and need changing I'm sure!

I think eliseparts do full kits of bushes but they are $$$ and I dont want to replace them all on all corners if I dont have to.

Rich, if the parts can be got and someone can give a guide Im all for giving it a bash.

JJ - Go for the standard rubber bushes and replace axle sets at a time. If you don't you'll be introducing differences in the geometery between the front wheels which can lead to a feeling of vaugeness and a tendancy for the car to pull to one side or the other.

For the amount of deformation in the rubber bush (movement - tread block squirm - sidewall flex - movement in top/bottom balljoints etc) it really ain't worth the price of exotic materials for the likes of us.

From experience of changing bushes it can be a troublesome job. Copious amounts of heat is normall required and a fair bit of presure. If your luck you can loosen the bond by using heat and cold and them rig up a press using a large and small socket with a longish bolt inbetween.

Post up when your planning on doing this and I'll try and make myself available, even for a short time.

I have been reading on SELOC about all these powerflex nylatron guff and I am pretty sure that the day I can tell the bushes are flexing when cornering is the day I end up in a field on my roof.

Axle sets at a time, i.e. all 8 on the front in one go? And where from, murrays the best bet?

Give MMC a go - I'm not sure it it's a shared compontent to save you paying top dollar.

Doesn't eliseparts sell the boggo standard ones too?

Went into MMC today to ask about the bushes.

I asked the q, the guy went away, and came back with (some time later).....

wait for it....... £112 each !

"The front bushes are not available seperately. The rears are. If you want to replace the front ones you will have to replace the wishbones as they dont sell the bushes seperately."

Somewhat taken aback, I asked him if he was sure 3times and he said yes.

If they are available seperately (which I am sure they are) I'll be letting MMC know how what a joke their parts dork in Glasgow is!

I'm sure someone round here will have a lotus parts list, they must be in there! Why would they sell rears and not fronts? YTS lad in the parts dept?

Thats complete bollox! they are avaliable seperatly and range from about £12-16 depending on type

Front (complete x8 bushes)

Bush, upper wishbone rear pivot - A111C0108F x2
Bush, lower wishbone/upper wishbone front pivot - A111C0075F x6

I've only got old prices but the A111C0108F were about a £16 and the A111C0075F were about £12 (inc vat)

That boy at MMC Glasgow, quite literally , doesnt know arse from elbow.
That is the last time MMC will ever have the option of taking any of my cash!

"Late last night a fire broke out at Murray Motor Company's Lotus Franchise, located just off Shields Road, Glagsow. 3 Tenders battled for hours in an attempt to contain the blaze.

The fire was only brought under control when members of a local owners group turned up to assist the fire brigade. Station Master P Burns said " We had struggled for hours but due to the volitile nature of the fuel contained within the cars we were really fighting a losing battle. We heard a loud noise, resembling a car's exhaust on a few occasion but thought nothing off it. Soon afterwards the fire was extigushed and though the haze and smoke we were able to make out between 10 & 12 gentlemen standing besides Lotus elises shaking their penises."

The fire raged uncontrollably for 6 hours before eventually burning itself out. Initial reports suggest that the Police are considering some 'suspicious' sightings of a small grey sports car, possibly a Lotus Elise, 'spitting flame' in the vicinity of the franchise site, mere minutes before the blaze was reported.

In an unrelated incident, Police cautioned several Lotus drivers at the notorious 'Dukes Pass' in Perthshire several hours following the event, for 'excessive celebrations'
