Intermittent Rattle...Rear suspension?

Hi there,

SE member has suggested a post for some advice/thoughts/ pearls of wisdom!

In the last week I've noticed a single knocking/ rattle from under the car. It isn't induced by braking, use of clutch going over a bump. It's audible at low speeds and is really quite random.

Needless to say I'm paranoid!

It was suggested it may be to do with the gear selector? :?: Paranoia again but the gears perhaps been a bit sticky...

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Car is now going to get the sports exhaust fitted a week today...so it's off the road pending examination....

Handbrake cable knocking the chassis probably. I diagnosed mine by gently pulling on the handbrake while it was going on, hey-presto, rattle was gone!

Loose undertray, I've had similar rattles and found the alan bolts fixing the undertary to the chassis were a bit loose.

It's a silly little plastic car built by turnip f armers, of course it rattles.

The challenge is knowing which rattles are serious...

another thought, you could be in luck, most owners find serveral thousand ponds in loose change under the seats

Thought what the heck and went for a blast...it just got worse so I headed for home!

tried the handbrake thing...the noise continued....

The gears are getting stickier so a feeling it may well be the linkage....gona get it looked at asap....at the latest Saturday when the Exhaust gets fitted!

(And yep! I won't hear it then!!)

Cheers for replies - much appreciated :D

Look at the undertray for oil staining and check the inboard drive shaft joints for oil slicks. one of my driveshaft oil seals went and the box got pretty noisy.

aalmost certainly a loose undertray bolt then. Get your fella to get under the car & tighten them up.

Job's a parsnip.

The bloody noise has gone!

Decided to trake it out for a spin and ran it for half an hour without a peep!

May need to run it for longer to see if it's heat related......

Read a thread somewhere about replacing a particular hose (red?) that caused similar noise...

advice for the stupid newbie would be much appreciated! :D :D
