NLC Steering wheel/airbag removal

New track/hillclimb toy should arrive at the weekend and I want to change the steering wheel from the standard rubbery airbag version to a nice suede dished effort.

I know airbags use some kind of explosive charge to activate so it would be safe to say I'm 'cautious' of removing it.

Is it easy to do? How do I go about it without blowing my face off?

cheers
John

sounds straightforward!

is there not some kind of charge thing that I need to remove too? I've heard that it's sometimes under the seat? Is that true? Maybe it's just the usual 'paddock gossip'....

Let the car stand allegedly to allow the airbag charge to dissapate so it doesn't go *poof...*

Then take it outside and work out what you are going to airbag to death

There are often seat belt tensioners under the seat that use similar explosive devices.

May be an idea to remove them also when the harnesses go in

I trust that by removing the negative terminal this will be disarmed and I 'should' be safe to remove it?

The seats will be coming out so I imagine access will be easy.
