I have a constant clunking noise coming from the front of my car and I had it jacked up and the wheels off to investigate. I found nothing loose however my track rod ends are burst (so will be getting replaced). My questions is, is this likely to be the source of the clunking or is it just something else to add to the list.

mine used to clunk every time i got in
it was the early nylatron arb bushes removed, refaced so they close tighter regreased and now its perfect
they are only fitted to the very early s1, later versions use rubber

Just checked out the ARB apears to be nylon however they appear to be tight enough ie no cluncking with my 16 stone swinging them about. What I have noticed is that the oil cooler on my car appears less than secure, does anyone know how these are secured? I may try packing it out with some card before I head up to Inverness tomorrow to try and eliminate it.
