Winscreen replacement

Howdy all,

Who determines weather a windscreen needs to be replaced through insurance? Mine has a small star in the middle out of drivers FOV but when the sun is low the gravel chips make it nigh on impossible to see. Can I just claim it or will they actually assess it?

Anyone know for sure? My ins co have been useless with my claim so I intend to take full advantage before renewal next month!

Should have seen that coming really....

I need it to remain drivable while it is dealt with....

(PS: As a non-Catering7field driver that means I like the windscreen infront of me!)

Autoglass or whoever the insurance company sends out should decide. I had a crack in the windscreen of my old car, which the Autoglass guy tried to repair (called them out via insurance company). He couldn't repair it, so I arranged for windscreen replacement the following week.

I think it's really up to you TBH. I just called up the insurance company and told them it needed replaced.

go over the car with a fine tooth comb after... they left the packing shims from my front clam sitting in the sills and left off both the front bonnet rubber stops as well as leaving a smear of black RTV over anything they could.

Popular technique is to get a dealer who knows what they are doing to hold the car while the screen is done, thus the mechanics can release the front clam to ensure better fitting etc, then put it all back together again afterwards.

In fairness to MMC, I think they used to be quite helpful and reliable in this regard. A good bodyshop with experience of Elises should be able to do the same...eg Steve Walker for those of us in C Scotland ;-)

Or of course someone as handy as yourself can do that on your own :-)

I was thinking about getting Stephen M of Phoenix to do while it was in for the clam. I'll give bell a ring later and let them know.

Booked in with 2 days to go on Bell's insurance. Unlucky for them....

Shouldn't have been so flipping useless with my claim and I probably wouldn't have bothered....

They want it dropped off at the depot so they can fit it. Not so sure I like the idea of that... Might give them the keys but no alarm fob so they can push it but not drive anywhere.
