I dont think it matters what speakers you go for - still cannae hear the fecking things in the S1
Ive got an alpine sub woofer mounted behind the PAX seat which makes a huge difference when listening to CDs. Got it with the car, but I switched it off the other day to see what the difference was... Really made a big difference!

Thought of woof(t)ers Mac, but a bit to subtle for the average IQ on here of the Hi-Fi brigade.........

haggis, Ive got Infinity speakers in mine which are good... just had the speaker pods out for the first time today and it looks like a wee bit of notch cutting was required when they were fitted.
They dont have any covers on them, so I can see me puncturing them with the harness clips
Think these are them...

The S1 comes with alpine speakers as standard so they shouldn't need iupgraded unless you bust then or they get damp.

I installed a pair of tidy JBL 2-way units with separate tweeter pods, the main driver unit was the same dia as the outgoing "Alpines" (which, incidentally, do NOT reflect the normally expected quality of Alpine gear, so don't be fooled by the name).
Plenty room behind the speaker pods to install the crossovers, velcro'd them onto the bulkhead to avoid rattles. Couple of minor holes to drill in upper part of speaker pod to take the tweeter domes.
End result - much cleaner sound, no distortion at high volume (important in an Elise!), and much tighter bass. No need for a subwoofer, they are just heavy.
Our own resident DIY car hifi enthusiast N1ck Rossi helped me install them in 1999, was the first official "mod" I made to the car!

I thought the Alpine ones were crap when I bought the car,so got some Infinity ones to replace them with...they were even worse.Took them back to halfords any they gave me a refund.Fitted a Kenwood sub ,and its fine now.Wish I had went for the set up that was posted on SE many years ago ,looked great, but I have lost the link now.It was about £600 I think and looked really good.
