coolant header tank leaking

may be a silly question, but have any of you ever had your tank leak?

I've noticed on a few occasions now that after pushing the car hard, there is a very very small amount of coolant dribbling out of the cap. broken/worn seal on cap?
Is a new cap my first port of call?

Also, what levels should the coolant be at when engine cold and when its warm?

all cars are slightly different but my K series was just below min at cold, bang on max when hot. You shouldnt lose any out of the cap. Could just be a faulty pressure cap, which is cheap and easy enough to change.

Could be more serious if you are genuienly overpressuring the cooling system

mine is bang on 'Max' when hot too.
I'll get the new cap and take it from there...

In caterham circles it is advised by quite a few folk to replace the cap yearly so you don't run into pressure problems. If your cap is not maintaining pressure you can easily get localised boiling in the head which can lead to problems

I had very faint traces of coolant seeping out so I got a new cap and that sorted it.

Mine lives at the min mark. Hot, cold, warm, tropical, balmy, whatever, it never moves now.

Used to be at max when cold and min when warm though...

Nah, I have my HGF insurance (AA Parts and Labour) and a spare head in the shed

It always did that so I ignored it, best policy until something changes...
