Rear wheel bearing
Rear wheel bearing
Is the best way to change this to take the hub off? I planning on taking the hub and new bearing to a local garage to press the old bearing out and fit the new one.
I've taken the front hub off before, is the rear is pretty much the same except for the driveshaft, which I think is 'just' a case of removing one bolt??
Gotta try an get this done tomorrow/Thursday as I'm driving to Oirland on the Friday, tho I don't suppose it would kill me if I didn't, right? :-/ Gets bloody noisey after a while tho.
cheers

Hmmmm
I remember mine, when doing the engine swap. Hadn't been off since the car was built. Inch-drive socket set, footbrake, handbrake, chocks and a 4 foot length of scaff pole would not shift the booger.
Ended up being drilled and chiseled off.....

Shug, to be fair, you dont have much weight to bounce on the end of the scaffold pole.Shug wrote:Hmmmm

Scott's a little more...chunky..
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
if the centre caps are still in place on the wheels then the hub nuts should not be too bad. Be careful of the driveshaft joints though you can pull them apart if you aren't careful!
Might be worth changing the gearbox oil seals and gearbox oil while you are in there. Will quieten the box down nicely

Went out in car for 40 mins today and could barely hear the noise enough to tell which wheel it's coming from. So I've gone an bought a bearing an if it gets really bad I'll just get a garage to change it when I'm over there.
Rich, sounds like a good idea, I've still to sort out the leak from those lever rubber things too. I'll try an get it all done once I'm back next week.
£50 for the bearing tho
my brother's only £20 for the bearings for his Audi A4!
cheers
