Scottish Elises

I'm needing to replace my front and rear disc (and pads?).

I don't really do track days and I'm not the fastest at the best of times so probably won't need anything too sporty.

What do you suggest / how much / where from?

EBC standard or turbogroove brake discs (if you want to be a bit sporty ) and a set of EBC green stuff pads will be absolutely fine for your use.

£115 for a pair of standard discs
£150 for a pair of grooved/dimpled discs
£45 for an axle set of green stuff pads.

I would personally avoid EBC greenstuff pads at all costs. Worse than OEM.

The discs are fine for road/light track use though.

Not in my experience - I think the greenstuff are a great first step away from the OEM stuff.

Personally I've been able to set OEM on fire - not managed that with greens (yet)

Had Greens on the 135 and just bought some for the s2. There ok i think.

This is something I have come across a lot so maybe they are just wildly inconsistent. I have yet to have a positive experience of Greenstuff pads. I would rather use standard compound mintex pads for road use and they are considerably cheaper.

Are the OE pads just boggo standard Mintex or are they "lotus specials"

If you have the time, scour ebay, with the rest of us, and get some MMCs sound like they fit your requirements 100%.

Never tried boggo standard pads - went from OE to Greens to Pagids and learned how brake each time.

I washed my car tonight and drove it round the block to dry it off a bit.... jeeeeeesssussss NO BRAKES!!!!..... try again - nearly hit my head against the steering wheel!

i find them fine when driving through puddles though

Tried Greenstuff twice, for economy reasons, but ditched them before half worn as they do not seem to want to stop.

No doubt which are best, Pagids, but they are expensive.

Back on MMC's now, disks are half the weight, and as long as you are not doing wide open airfields with 200HP, they should not melt. Pads are almost Pagid prices, but last much longer, but I bought a shed load package on eBay for not much, so they should outlast me.

They can go bang though, even with 118bhp at Knockhill. You know this!

Too right! They can be very scary if you've been on a long haul on something like the M8 then nearly vault the landscape in the middle of the Hermiston Gait roundabout after trying to use your soaking wet MMC brakes.

Personally, I would never use them again after exploding one then changing to ali bells + Pagids but I know other people don't feel the same way.

They are astonishingly light but you might not give a toss about that given what you use the car for.
