Ok S1 boys get the abuse out the way but I think fitting remote central locking to my car will make my life slightly easier and perhaps I will live longer.

In the early S2s the Meta Alarm M99T which is detailed here http://www.metasystem.it/car/eng/m99T2_gb.htm
can apparently be used to trigger a central locking kit such as maplins £21 kit which works fine I have been told by rather helpful pistonheads member. However he could not manage to link it into the alarm to trigger it on the Lotus factory keyfob although this should be possible. the maplin kit comes with an interface that requires a single wire to lock/unlock (ground to lock, 12v unlock) from the alarm.

Any ideas? :D

This would probably take a good auto electrician an hour to do, may be worth the 40odd quid it would cost to get one to look at it?

I mean if its going to improve your life expectancy, who cares what it costs... :lol:

My cousin whacked it into his civic, so might get him on the case. by the way the kit is only £21!

Exactly ;) Also think of the time you'll save not having to lock the doors. Increased life expectancy and more spare time on my hands!

The increased weight gained by these monster solenoids I will be forced to burn off down the gym - hence making me healthier and will live even longer!

Hell, I might even take over the world?

I was talking about paying someone to hook it up. That would also increase lifespan as chance of electrocution is lower.....

Excellent, it's official if you want to live longer get a CL kit - the kit it self looks relatively straight forward. Its triggering it off the alarm remote that may cause hassle.

yeah i'm also thinking of doing this to my S2 - because it's getting harder and harder to unlock the bloody thing this weather!

tbh tho i'm not overly bothered about triggering it off the alarm but it would be handy.

well so far - have the solenoids mounted in a position which flicks the deadlocks back and forth ( added bonus - when locked no barsteward is getting into steal the car unless he is very very skinny or they obliterate the entire door with an axe. )

Problem - need to route the wires out the doors with no holes for any electrics.

Problem - where the fcuk is the alarm?

Also weighed the solenoids on the bathroom scales couldn't even get them to register the 100 grams first notch!

Having your doors locked would deter someone breaking into an Elise for about 10 seconds.

i had a shufty about my car today and couldn't find the bloody alarm but opening the door with it activated confirms it's presence with a loud noise - so it's certainly there but it must be very very tiny and hidden!

did you have to use the black and decker power drill to fit the solenoids? i'm slightly ham fisted with these things and could do no end of damage!!

But maybe not the average ned? The dealocks would stop people smashing the window, leaning in and opening the door. I heard about a VX owner who had his car car-jacked basically but the idiots couldn;t work out how to start the thing - with the starter button on the dash!

i was also going to fit a little switch ala 111s/r to lock the doors from inside.

And ninja you do need a drill - but the doors are soft fibre glass and it's very easy.

Ninja.

The alarm and associated bits n bobs are being the rear bulkhead. Take the pax seat out, driver's seat far forward (or out), remove speakers and unscrew the 5 (or 6) plastic screws at the top.

It's a bloody tight squeeze to get it in and out - some silicone lube comes in handy (back to black works well too)

More hype than anything. What you need is one of those allen key kits will the ball type end. They can driver an allen screw at various angles which is what you need. Trying to go in at 90deg is near impossible.
