Plea for help - sticking throttle
Plea for help - sticking throttle
Hi Guys
With out the desire to visit MMC for the 16th time wondered if anyone fancied casting there eye over this? Fed up with visiting sighthill to have to go back within 7 days.......simply have no time for it at present.
Much appreciated any advice. It seems to be catching when fully shut. Its had a brand new throttle body. in fact when i sell it the lucky owner will be getting a 2006 spec 111r!! (new engine, ecu etc etc)

Just had the same problem, diagnosed as the cable being really old in my case. To ease the problem (to fix requires the cable repacing) you will require:
20mins,
1 can of carlsberg
scissors
1 can wd40
8mm & 14mm spanners (For the mighty K) to release the engine end of the cable
an assistant (preferably a semi clad voluptuous lady of negotiable morals but ed will do)
Drink lager
Cut can in half with scissors so you have a metal cup
Pinch one side of the cup forming a rudimentary spout
spray wd40 into cup so you have a little pool of oil
Undo the cable from the engine end, undoing one of the lock nuts so the end position stays the same.
Hold the outer cable vertically and pour in the oil while the gorgeous or otherwise assistant slowly presses the accelerator in (The one on the right) you then pull it out
Keep going until bored or the cable become noticably easier to move, it took me about 20 mins on my own.
Replace cable
Enjoy a none sticky throttle.

I haven't looked at one of these - any chance of pictures? One looking at the side of the throttle where the cable attaches and one looking into the bore of the throttle (i.e. air pipe off) with the throttle part open?
I assume if you press the pedal hard enough it opens anyway?
Can you disconnect the cable end from the throttle body easily enough? If so, does pedal still stick when the cable is disconnected from the throttle body? Does the throttle body stick when operated by hand with the cable disconnected.
Could also be the throttle position sensor being notchy - when they replaced the throttle body did they fit a new TPS also? I assume you've had several of those by now though, so not that likely
If you want to pop over tomorrow night I would be happy to take a look in the garage ... Katie's out tonight so stuck indoors.
Cheers,
Robin
