iPod Adaptor

I have a Pioneer head unit with Pioneer ipod box adaptor.
When fitted to the 135R the adaptor sat behind the stereo with the ipod connection popping out beside the steering wheel.
When fitting to the Exige I can't do the above set up and the center vents block this access to steering wheel area.
Can anyone suggest an alternative route?
My other thought is install an AUX cable from head unit and run past the handbrake cable and next to the cigarette lighter/power point. Doing this would be neat but I would not be able to control the ipod via my head unit.
Cheers
G

Not quite sure what you mean it "blocks" it, as I have mine running from the HU through the dash to the shelf on the right of the steering wheel?

Thought you couldn't hear music in an Exige - must be driving below 6200 too often....

Wonder what Lotus are doing as I-Pod adapters are available in 07MY cars?

My head unit was iPod ready so I drilled a small hole in the plastic end cap/trim locted on the left hand side of the "parcel tray" under the head unit location, the iPod sits in the tray. iPod controlled from the head unit/remote control. Truly a lightweight alternative to the multidisc CD changer.

We just use an iTrip. When we bother to take any sounds in the Elise, that is...which is rare!

Are those itrips any good? Or any of the ipod fm transmitters for
that matter? I know the radio reception is the elise is terrible, so
thought those transmitter thingys wouldn't be that great. Hinting
to the g/f for a new head unit for xmas, but wondered if the itrip
is worthwhile for the time being.

itrips work really well in an elise as there is no metal between the transmitter and reciever.
for installing the ipods controls, you can feed the wiring out through the back of the unit without touching anything, (adopt the lotus position for this

), and then runs the cables down the centre/ gearshift area. Its does take a bit of doing though and a lot of perserverence, but only a 20 minute job tops....fiddly though.

Mine doesn't work well in the Elise.
Read somewhere (Sel#c possibly) that the Stack and 'other' electro pulses interfere with the i-Trip reception.

Agreed, mine is pretty pish in the Elise so I went with the £7 Blaupunkt cable from
http://www.bluespot.co.uk and it works great.

My mate tried to use his iTrip in my Elise once and we had to sit the iPod up on the dashboard near the windscreen vents because the aerial is under the front clam. It couldn't get a reception when he placed it on one of the shelves, I'm assuming because they are made of metal.

I don't think it's anything to do with the aerial being in the front cos it's not in mine and on the dash is where it gets the best reception. Fine on the dual carriageway but not so good when you go round corners!

Agree iPod placement in the Elise is fairly critical to make the itrip work, we tend to put it in the net behind the seats = close to aerial on bootlid!
But let's face it, you can't hear hi-fi quality sound properly in most Elises anyway, so a bit of fuzz and crackle goes mostly unnoticed
Saves a bunch of wiring hassle for not much benefit, IMHO.

guys, i've a fm transmitter that Sanjoy was going to try out, but its still in the AMP3 Smart awaiting collection.
If Sanj doesn't want it (he has first claim) someone else is welcome to give it shot?
