AD08R

Post by craigs135s » Sun Mar 06, 2016 11:23 pm

Going to get some AD08Rs for the Europa. Car has TD 1.2s and the front tyre sizes are 205 50 16 but looking to run 205 45 16 will this cause any issues?

Thanks
Craig

I shouldn't think it will make any significant difference.

I ordered the frofile down for the 211 by mistake, only problem was it lowered the front of the car by about 10mm. As it only had 75mm of ground clearance,it was a bit of an issue, so adjusted the ride height to suit.

Would expect a 10mm lower side wall, therefore a similar drop in ride height. Doubt it will have much effect, other than giving the car a slightly lower front end.

I run these tyres / sizes on my VX220 as do many.

They work very well (respectible in this mornings snow even!), but the Europa can suffer from the same ABS issues as the VX220 when smaller front wheels are used.

Most just disable the ABS or find a Lotus ABS controller to account for the smaller fronts.

:cheers Thanks for the response everyone.

Rossco do you mean smaller front tyres rather than wheels as am sure the standered wheel for the Europa isn't as wide as the 1.2s? I am sure the ABS controller has been changed will need to look through the paper work of the other owners.

Thanks

Its not the wheel width, the smaller 16" front wheels / tyres (VX220 and Europa use 17" fronts) can upset the standard 2-channel ABS unit due to the large change on % front / rear rolling radius from OEM. Some are fine actually, but the 'best' solution is to use an Elise / Exige 4-channel ABS controller (straight swap) which is calibrated for the different wheel set-up (and just generally better).

Your's might already have this, but I was under the impression most Europa's come with the same ABS unit as the VX220's.. You can tell with the part number on the underside when the controller (black lump on the ABS unit) is removed.

Thanks Rossco. Yeah am sure the ABS controller has been updated but will give it a check.

Cheers
