NLC - Citroen Saxo/Pug 106
The Saxo/106 looks a good bet for a hillclimb car (1600cc so stays in class A2)
There are a lot damaged VTR Saxos on the go for peanuts. VTSs are a bit dearer.
Does anyone know if the 16 valve head from the VTS/106GTi fits onto the VTR (8 valve) block?
If so, are there any other changes I need to do to get the 16v head on the 8v block?
I think the blocks are the same but don't want to bet on it....

the VTR block can take the 106 XSi head no problem I'm unsure wither it will take the VTS head as it's a 16v
I believ the blocks are the same heard diff. stories about altering pistons blah blah etc.
I would personally pay the very little extra for a VTS.
standard performance is great for 120bhp, 0-60 7.3secs and 130mph
I had a group N OMP steel exhaust with decat and enclosed green induction kit on my VTS and it pushed nearly 130 which is good for very little work and much cheapness
GMC motorsport in Newton stewart are the experts regarding the saxo's 106's etc. they supercharge and do allsorts, if you gave them a bell they would answer any tech. queries over the phone, they do great performance orientated exhausts and filters and don't sh*t.

ps a 106 Rallye gearbox or vtr has closer ratios, lower top end but quicker in a sprint

I've seen a heap of VTRs at low prices (the free insurance thing offered when new has resulted in a glut of them I think) but the VTSs still seem to hold just that bit more.
I'll give those guys a phone and see what they can do for me.
With 120bhp as stock, it's a good base point to make car competitive (ish) in class A2 on the hills. It'd be up against Novas with about 180bhp+ so obviously, I'd need to tweak it some but it's a light car and a good size in the first instance so it should tune quite well.
Plan of action would be:
strip it (incl underseal and maybe perspex it),
weld in a cage (net weight reduction negligible)
stiffen the front springs and sort out the back (it's torsion bar, yes?) and get the back about as stiff as it'll go,
AO48s or R888s,
exhaust+induction
Cams and a re-map would be next stage then maybe look at porting the heid
Would it be the 1300cc Rallye 'box?

Paid around 4k all in, that was the charger, intercooler, dastek pushed around 150bhp+ at the wheels i think, very smooth and a real sleeper.I had just bought the elise he was trying to keep up
suspension - yeah rear is a torsion bar, He had the full Bilstein suspension set up from GMC (I had basic set up -50mm springs and rear setup to match), amazing handling ! they handle great as standard even better with billies. Loads of 3 wheel action when cornering
also try saxosportsclub.com, there is a few boy racers kicking about on it but there is alot of good guys who know there stuff in the technical section.

It'll take it - but with a bit of engineering.
Much easier, cheaper and more tested method would be to stick the 16v in an 8 valve car. Plenty of these have been done.

Woody, nae sure I know what you mean - I'm planning on putting the 16v into an 8v already?
