SIMON!!!

If it's the same as the S1 (which I really don't know) then you go in though a removable grommet in the front of the front inner wheelarches (or just pull the arches back)

How many Elise owners does it take to change a light bulb?

I have no punchline but there's the making of a crap joke.

On the S2 you go in through the wheel arch liner - there are 3 wingnut screws i believe that hold on a back panel. However this is all i know and I have not done it myself.

S2.

Turn the steering wheel away from the side you want to change. This gives the most access available without removing the wheel.

With a stubby screwdriver undo the three knurled screws - they are fairly big, you can't really missed. These are in a rough triangle layout.

Once undone the front lens cover comes off (from the outside) which gives you access to the bulbs.

Refit, as they say, is the reverse of removal.

Cheers

Mac

PS: It's also detailed in the handbook - it's in the bit about continental driving as you also deflect the beam this way.

On a related note does anyone know of any guides to adjust the headlights? If they are wrongly adjusted I believe this is an MOT fail?

Yes - wrongly adjusted headlights will fail an MOT.

Are you a S1 or S2 driver?

For a S2 driver I would take it along to MMC or do as detailed above and then take it to your local MOT testing station, remembering to refit the covers before the actual test takes place.

For a S1 there should be two little recesses in the headlamp cover (IIRC they are positioned at approx 12 & 3) so bugger around in there with a thin bladed screw driver until you get the beam in the correct place. Unfortunatly the only "proper" way to do it is in front of the testing equipment.

However, I've never heard of an elise fail because of headlight alignment - the car is so low and the lights don't have the greatest of output.

FFS :)

didn't your car come with a handbook?

I can't recall of hand but I'm fairly sure I did reconcile them with the Halfords listing and they were correct.

Answer = Dip are H1 and mains are H7

I was thinking about 100 watt but am I right in thinking they may be too hot for the Elise headlamp setup.

Does anyone know what the driving lamp bulbs are (edited to confirm H3 bulbs). These could take 100 watt as they are class?
