Evora Reverse Camera FAILURE

Post by Jordan » Thu Mar 26, 2015 5:47 pm

when i put the car into reverse today the camera was showing an orange screen, then it was all fuzzy, i turned the car off and back on and also turned the bit itself off and now its just black all together,

does anyone know any suggestions on how to fix this, i washed the car last night but i rinsed it off with a hose nothing too heavy, not sure if water has got in somewhere?

I contacted murray though and they are £175 for replacement camera and fitting which is seriously mental ! i expect a 32in LG fitted in my car for that price

I've heard you can get cheaper cameras on ebay etc for around £20-£30 but I'm not exactly sure which one it is that i need and also if the quality is just as good as the standard Alpine one,
does anyone know where you can get the Alpine one cheaper than £175 also

any help would be great appreciated

cheers

There is a similar thread on The Lotus Forums but the quote from the Lotus dealer was £600  Worth checking to see if there is any reccomendation pops up there as to best replacement. Aparently getting the old camera out and new in can be a challenge unless youre built like a racing snake.

Tadts

Mine is fcuk too. Hasn't worked since October :D worth leaving yours a day or two as mine used to dry out and work again until it completely failed. If you've not noticed it not working after driving in the rain it should be OK.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Guessing 3yrs from new.

My cam was around £90 in parts alone. Fitting is indeed a fiddle so Murray outsource it to a specialist. Based on my recent experience, £175 is not unreasonable.

You may be able to replace the camera yourself depending on where the connectors are.

If unsure, discuss with Car Radio Services in Perth. They did mine (in conjunction with Craig at Murray).

Campbell, Craig told me they get the part from Perth but i can have it installed at Murrays if its easier for myself which it is, The warranty on the Evora doesn't include audio equipment which i found out today.

the parts i read on TLF a few people said you can get cheaper alternatives on ebay for £20-£30 mark but I'm not sure which ones on ebay would work wit the alpine unit, does anyone have any links to ones which will work,

I'm not sure I'd use a cheap part in this inhospitable environment.

I've read a few things on TLF and it sees a common fault with the 2010 evora, why do they put the electrics in places water can get to them :x
im gonna wait a few days see if it water and if it drys out, might even be a loose connection but i wouldn't know where to put my hands to find out if that was the case, to start with it went all fuzzy but you could still see a picture then when i went back into neutral then back to reverse it just went blank all together

I've been told this will work and is a good camera and the price looks brilliant, can anyone back this up or give me a little more info to the CCD ? alpine one thats in the car at the moment isn't CCD

Jordan,

At that price you can treat it as a consumable. Esp if you learn how to fit it :-)

I've not got a clue when it comes to fitting things like that I'm best leaving it to the pros otherwise i'll make it worse, think in going to buy that one at £13 on ebay as someone on TLF has said its actually better quality than the alpine one and then have Murrays fit it to the car

Good plan. As it happens I have an Alpine, on recommendation from CRS, and it's working well.

The water ingress on my Evora affected a different area ;-)

If you're paying someone else to fit, it rarely makes sense to 'try' a cheap replacement. Surely if you buy the genuine part from Murray and it fails you get a new one fitted, but if you supply a duff non genuine part, you'll have to pay twice for installation?

ceejam, if i buy from lotus and have them fit it i have 12 months warranty on the part, but they're is no guarantee that after 12months that this fault won't re occur as it seems to be common, i would rather replace 5 or 6 cheaper cameras over a period off time rather than one costing £175, a member on TLF has told me the one i bought he had also bought to try out and it actually blows the alpine out the water, HD and also CCD much clearer picture day and especially night, all that needs done to have this one fitted is a cable that runs along the side of the car extended to the boot apparently,
