DIY Head gasket - wont turn over / Stack lighting up like a

Hey guys, I'm a bit stumped.... me and my dad have been toiling away on my old S1 doing the head gasket for the last week or two -

So in brief-

Mechanical work all done

turn the key - Stack flashing like it's the Blackpool illuminations

The Stack calms down and I hear the pump working and various other familiar noises

so try to start - nothing happens = :-(

struggling to charge the battery, it seems like the alarm is trying go off constantly!?

So in not so brief-

Everything is put back together, I reconnect the battery (having previously disarmed the Cobra 6422 alarm then disconnected battery) I disabled the alarm, sounded fine (clicks and buzzes) but no flashing indicators. Turn the key so the dash lights up - whole thing flashing away like I've crashed the car. We put on a new fuel filter so my dad held the disconnected fuel pipe expecting some fuel to come out - that didn't happen so reconnected it.

Tried starting, nothing happened.

To complicate things, at this point I realize the battery (which is a dry battery) has different characteristics from normal ones. At first it seemed fully charged but after a few minutes I could tell it was rapidly losing power. So I put it on charge, 'hopefully' before the alarm lost power.

Now the strange thing is, while it's charging I'm hearing the alarm clicking inconsistently. Keep in mind I have the siren disabled - so the indicators normally tell me what it's doing. But they aren't coming on even if I switch them on with the stalk. Fuses all seem fine. Headlights do come on.

So it's still charging and the last time I turned the key it was just a repeat of events with the crazy flashing Stack.

Thoughts!? (besides sticking it on a truck and sending it off to a garage)

cheers

Scott

Panic over! The wires to the engine reset button were corroded through but I think all it was, was the battery. I was just unfamiliar with the way the dry battery loses power, still... I've never seen the Stack go nuts like that before.

Car started, sounded about as good a K-Series ever could!

Good effort :thumbsup 8)

I have been thinking of doing some Lotus paintings/art for a while... well a few years come to think of it. If only I had more spare time (in fact some spare time would be nice!)
