Elise head unit "upgrade"

Post by campbell » Sat May 10, 2014 11:12 pm

I've had the same trusty Pioneer CD head unit in the S1 for 15 yrs. It saw 2 earlier years' service in my Tigra. Great bit of kit. But no aux, no Bluetooth, etc (!)

Wanted something to play tunes from my iPhone, and spotted another Pioneer unit in Halfords for a bargain £65. "Mechless", ie no CD transport - ideal. And what a price.

Installed it all by myself a couple of weeks ago. All good except couldn't hear any audio on phone calls. Perplexed. Then had a lightbulb moment...were the S1 speakers being treated as rears? And phone audio plays only via fronts?

Sure enough, turns out S1 speakers are wired as rears (even though there never are any fronts).

So after some prompt consultancy from ever-present Robin, I split all 8 speaker cables on the ISO harness, and rewired them using bullet connectors, to swap rear to front.

Result.

Long time since I did some successful DIY on the Elise :-)
