S1 noisy and lacking power, then ok.. diagnosis?

So...
My car was perfectly well behaved from Dundee to Bridge of Cally, then everything became really load (exhaust grunt I think) under load, and the induction hiss was very apparent (k and n fitted) and power felt lacking.
After a couple of miles I pulled over check fluids, all ok.
I turned around and started to head home, after Blairgowrie everything was back to normal, then got worse as I pushed on for a bit (temperature related?)
Any ideas?
Can it be something as simple as a leaky exhaust when it's really hot?

Before you said it went back to being ok it sounded mine did when the cam timing went out. Obviously not that, but maybe ignition related?

Agree regards ignition, Id start with basics like plugs. Ive had it where the insulation failed when hot then when cooling started to work again.

Plugs changed, won't know if it's sorted until I get the chance to take it on another run though, managed 30 minutes on Sunday and it was fine, but then Bridge of Cally where it first presented is further than that

When and where did you last have timing belt changed?
I would check that the bottom bolt is properly tight.
Also distributor cap and wonky TPS wiring can cause intermittent symptoms.

Belt has probably been 5 years.. I guess i should think about getting it done again.
I had the car up to Glenshee last night, well behaved and happy there and back with no stopping for a break so looks like spark plugs did the trick.

Belt is 4 years isn't it? I'd say get it done anyway as you usually don't get a warning - just a massive bill...

Try the leads as well if the issue does make a comeback.
