Winter Tyres - Pressures

Hi all,

Don't have my manual with me, could someone tell me the tyre pressures for running winter tyres please on my S1?

Sorry I don't have the figure but my understanding is that it is usually 10-20% lower than standard pressure depending on personal preference.

Last year I had nankangs on my car that were rather wobbly even in cold so I put them to close to normal Tyre working pressure.

You normally set winter tyres to a HIGHER pressure than summers.

Not sure if this is because they need a higher pressure to work or because normal recommended pressures are for a higher ambient temperature than the average ambient in winter so you are just correcting for that but anyway, I think they should be something like 2psi higher for winter tyres than the recommended summer pressures.

Just had a look at the manual for the S1 and for winter tires it says that the rears are supposed to be mounted on a standard front wheel. I have a later version of the same manual that then says that the normal 16" is used, weird.

Anyway, Front 185/55 R15 1.8bar (26psi) and rear 205/55 R16 1.9bar (27.5psi). These are narrower than standard but even if you are running normal width 195/225 front an rear should be a good starting point.

Thanks Mike, just had the AA pump the front left up to 30psi on the basis that it's leaking, and from there I can keep topping them up until I get them sorted properly. Have now booked them into the wheel specialist for next week to have them refurbished and powdercoated satin black

Perhaps nitrogen filled will help to reduce fluctuations cold weather causes.
